Charisma's owner think's she is looking a little fat, and keeps prodding her belly (good job C doesn't know what she's saying!) :p What do you guys think? She says she doesn't look like an 'athlete' :o

This was her on the 10th Aug:

As you might be able to tell there is hardly any grass in that field and there are 4 on there :o

I have always had a problem with her energy levels, she can be quite lazy and lethargic. I do wonder if she is getting enough vitamins, as the grass certainly isn't good quality, but then if you think she does look fat and she loses condition I find it hard to keep any ounce of topline on her?!

She is not a full time 'competition' horse but we do event once or twice a month riding club level. She is ridden around 5 times a week, mix of hacking, lessons and schooling. At the event yesterday her owner and my friend said she look tired, which surprised me as she is worked a lot during the week (but maybe I'm one of those people that think there horse is doing more than thought?!) So perhaps she was lethergic because of that belly? But I certainly didn't feel like I had to push her on, well maybe out the start box but halfway round she was positivlely tanking!

Thoughts?

I take it you just add that to whatever feed you give Jae at the moment (if he's on anything?) She was on Pink Power over winter, not sure why I took her off it tbh

I just need something to make her feel fabulous about herself :D :D

She does have a round barrel of a belly but I didn't think she looked fat  But now I'm not so sure! Spose better to be like that in prep for winter

I don't think she looks fat at all. Yes, a bit of a belly but to be honest she even looks a little tucked round her flanks, though that may be just the way she's standing.

No I don't think she looks fat, as you say, make sure she is getting a good vit and min supplement, I feed mine NAF EnerG due to slightly low iron, might be worth a try if she is lethargic

I don't think she looks fat either! As regards vit/mins, if you are not giving her the recommended amount of a commercial mix/cube, then yes a balancer or vit/min supplement would be a good idea. If you are feeding reduced amounts of a mix/cube then you can feed the supplement/balancer at a reduced rate - ie if you are feeding half the recommended amout of cubes then add half the recommended rate of balancer/supplement.

If you are just feeding unsupplemented feedstuffs (things like various chaffs, beet, oats etc) you can feed the whole dose of supplement/balancer with it.

Yep Jaes on very good grass at the moment so he gets 2 mugs a day mixed in with some fast fibre.

In the winter he gets the full 3 mugs a day mixed in with some Alfa chaff, oil and a bit of fast fibre or fibre nuts (split into two feeds).

It seems to suit him down to the ground, without it, he starts to look a bit tucked up and drops off a little topline.

:D

Thanks for the replies guys, I didn't think she looked fat but when her owner has said it more than once I started to doubt myself. Maybe she's always had her more on the lean side and now she is carrying more weight she thinks she's chubby. Personally I think she looks well - her belly is round but her neck and bum look well muscled?!

I'll have a look for a good balancer. TGM I think it might have been you who suggested TopSpec on another post of mine? Someone from my RC mentioned it too, as they thought it was good for hooves and C's aren't the best. (She has biotin, but if a balancer has it included I could take that out he diet?)

Thanks all xxx
