Just reading an earlier post on bad travellers in trailers even with more room and wondered if some horses just dont like or cant cope with travelling forwards or being in such a small area or is it us (me) making excuses for them?

Definately. I know of one pony that won't travel in a wagon, panics and thrashes around - stick him in a trailer and not a problen. Figures that the same is true otherway round for other horses

I wish this was my problem

My boy is petrified in a trailer and I just cant justify or afford to run a wagon

One day maybe.... big sigh.

Most are ok facing forwards or backwards
Some cannot cope herringbone, no breastbar to lean on

A trailer can give a different ride though, more sway, and be more claustrophibic

Up until recently I would just disagree with this, however, since I bought my horsebox I am completely amazed. My Irish mare would look like someone had bathed her on the way to the competition in the Equi-Trek, she sweated up incredibly badly and always has done. However, she is completely chilled in the lorry and has so far never even perspired in there

One of mine (the bay in my sig) won't travel in a trailer but is more than happy in a box. He's never gone in a trailer and he's nearly 20. I think it's a claustrophobia thing as when he was a youngster he didn't like going in and out of stables either.

Thanks for your replies, I think some horses will only travel in wagons but my friend disagrees. My horse is spooky but quite genuine and will load first time in a trailer albeit a wreck which I find quite sad really as he is so so scared but he will go in. Try to put the ramp up and he freaks. He travelled great in a wagon but after the trailer attempts he was even wary stood in that. We are yet to go anywhere so I jusy hope I havent wrecked his confidence
