"Heartbreaking sale of my beloved pony Hero. He was my first pony and bought for me when i was 12 and he hadn't done hardly anything beforehand, not even 1 show. I am now 16 and 5'9, and still having fun ! He has competed at the hickstead feed winter and summer finals, (2ft ish) coming 5th and a superb double clear. Many wins, always coming home in ribbons. I always said i would never sell Hero but due to my competition horse now on box rest for 6 months my circumstances have changed. He is a fun, loving wizzy little pony who is out to enjoy himself. has never been jumped more than once a month, due to time and no need for him to train at home. NEVER kicks or bites. 100% to clip and shoe. 1000% in traffic and to hack. The judges always have a good word about him every time he leaves the ring.
Adored wherever he goes.

First to see will buy.

an absolutely heartbreaking sale. Home more important than price"

ETA - do you think i also need a standing pic?

Hiya- he's a wee smasher! Please use spell check before you advertise and revise some of your punctutation
grin.gif

Photo wise if you're selling him as a jumper then I would defo use a good confo shot, and two of you jumping - perhaps one SJ and one XC. The hedge hopping photo is good if you could crop it. I personaly wouldn't use any photos of you riding without your chinstrap fastened. I know it may seem petty but your advert will look more 'professional' if you are correctly attired.

thats me riding the chestnut and infact my friend riding hero..
i rescued kingston from a dealers yard about a year ago...
he had been kicked in face because he was thrown out with 40 other horses. We took him home at 12 at night in fear of his survival.
vets feared he was in actual fact having a brain bleed,
his nose was just trickerling blood constantly. and he had also punchered his synes (sp?) near his eye and you could directly see his skull. the dealers infact had him tacked up looking like this.

... notice anything wrong with him!?!

sickening.

at the time i was only 15yo... (out looking for a top comp horse) but i sacrificed that to save him..

he actually slept flat out for 8 hours the next day... evryone thought he was dead! but infact he was just sleeping. that poor horse. so anyway, for the next few months i stuck by him.. got him to full health. got him to enjoy life. i had him for a few months and then later sold him to a quiet privet yard where he could chill out, and hack about.. and they love him..

before he left mine, he looked like this...

well worth it i think.

Hero - this morning I have created an account just so that I could comment on your moving story on the purchase of your chesnut boy.
Wow, it brought a tear to my eye. A great tale of compassion and a lovely display of commitment - well done you!!!
I really hope you find the right home for Hero too. I know it's heartbreaking but lots of us have been through the same emotional mill - be brave.
I would use at least one 'still' photo, without tack and one jumping. Good Luck!!

I have re-worded it a little:

"Heartbreaking sale of my beloved pony Hero - he was my first pony but now sadly outgrown as I am now 16 and 5'9.

Hero is a fantastic jumper with many wins to his name and always coming home in the ribbons. Competed at the Hickstead Feed Winter and Summer Finals coming 5th and a superb double clear. The judges always have a good word about him every time he leaves the ring.

He is a loving, fun and forward-going pony who is out to enjoy himself. NEVER kicks or bites. 100% to clip and shoe. 1000% in traffic and to hack.

Adored wherever he goes.

You could also add a few more details about what he has done. Has he done Pony Club at all and/or is he the sort who would happily do it without getting wound up working in a group at rallies? Has he done hunting or sponsored rides? Is he just a showjumper or is he good at cross country as well? What is his flatwork like? You say he is 100% to clip and shoe but what about to box? Is he the sort that is never fazed by fillers and spooky jumps? Is he fast against the clock? What sort of height does he normally compete and go clear over? Is it all 2' stuff like the Hickstead Feeds Finals or can he win and get placed over higher courses?

Pictures - I would definitely go for 3 & 4 (no 4 cropped if poss) - but can't choose between 2 & 5! I wouldn't worry too much about a standing pic if you are selling a jumping pony.

In the area of the country you are in, prices are relatively high so worth asking at least £3500 for him, assuming he has no vices or health problems you haven't mentioned. If he would make a good all-round Pony Club pony who would regularly jump clear round 2'6"/2'9" courses and be a good team member then that would push him up into the £4000 plus bracket.

thankyou so much... it was truly lovely to hear that. Its amazing what abit of TLC can do, mind and body.

absolutely, i am going to do my up-most to get hero the best possible home. i really appreciate what you said to me. thankyou.

Ummm ... just seen your website and it says that Hero nearly died of colic a couple of years ago - that will obviously put quite a few people off and affect the price, as will his liking for airs above the ground!

Hiya

He looks lovely. Not a clue on price, but agree with the comments above on the wording. Also just looked at your youtube, and there's a vid of Hero's 13th birthday...? Is the typo on youtube or on the ad?

Wonderful story about the chestnut, he looked amazing once you rehabilitated him. I can't believe the dealer had tacked him up, amazing what people will do.

I sold something similar , unseen, to Scotland for £4500, I am sure you could get more than £3k for him?

Yes, he came very overweight and had never moved homes before in life. hence why he got the colic. he hasnt yet got colic again.

what a shame hun, i know you from newrider, and always read yr threads. its really nice to come across a teenager that is so grounded, i know you love your chap, and im sure he is going to find an excellent home.

Well i've just brought a 14.2 mare, very similar hunted with a 10 year old, great little showjumping/XC and hacks alone in company .... I paid £1500 for her in Hampshire so maybe a bit too much....?

Good luck finding a home for him though.
