Do you think this horse wants to be ridden??

Horrible to watch, very unhappy horse. Hard to tell from such a short cut video if its discomfort or he's just learnt to deck her, but its very violent. When he reared and went over that was scary.

Hmmmmmm I don't think so! As weird as it sounds I really hope that pain is the problem because otherwise that is one messed up horse that will need a lot of training with a far better rider than her. Credit to her for getting back on all the time though.

That vid puts paid to the myth that you are not a good rider until you've fallen off a lot.
It's a shame the girl can't apply her bravery and determination to improving her riding and finding out what's wrong with her horse.

Really annoys me when people on here go on the attack with absolutely no knowledge of the subject or the situation. Before criticising the childs riding - perhaps look at the other videos she has posted of other ponies. She actually rides very nicely for a young girl. I can't quite see how her riding can be criticised in this particular video anyway - seeing as she is on the floor for most of it!

Problem with pony, not with rider. Either pain or naughtiness - but no-one can know for sure without knowing the pony. The text below the vid says that this pony does not have physical problems, but is known for testing new riders.

Agree with Auslander. It's a very strange relationship, and the horse does look as if he's testing her. For example, when she's lying across his back he's prepared to put up with her. Surely a lot of us had small ponies when we were young that took the mick and treated us like that, with no real malice but a desire to be rid of annoying creature on board? Especially bareback. And the moment he's dumped her he switches off and seems perfectly affable.

She certainly gets 10 out of 10 for trying.

I watched this one also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rg56_Y3YYM4&feature=related

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result! :p

She's certainly no quitter. I have vague recollections of being similar myself when I was a kid. Never had an easy pony to ride, and spent so much time getting decked that it didn't bother me in the slightest

this exactly.

Quite.

I really don't see what the rider is doing wrong - certainly nothing to merit the horse being a complete little s***! It may be pain, or naughtiness, but frankly I see no reason to dissect the rider without any knowledge of the situation at all.

i wouldn't ride it- that's for sure!

the girl has guts to keep getting back on after some quite dangerous deckings! i would be worried about pain- but also it seems to me to be that the horse is at it- he's quite happy to be leaned over. i'd be giving him a holiday, then completely re-backing from what i saw.

with regards the second video- it seems strange that the horse was going great until after the jump- it seemed to me like maybe she jabbs in the mouth on the landing or something?

either way she has guts, but i dont think i'd invite her for a go on my horse... incase it turns out she has an electric bum or something?! :D

xx

She's certainly very brave but I think this horse is beyond her. She clearly pulls him over backwards in the rear and that one incident alone should have been enough for her parents to put down the camera and drag her off the horse - incredibly dangerous. The rest looks progressively more counter-productive as the horse off-loads her faster and faster each time.

The rear is awful. The horse looks like its a habit to get her off. There's no panic in his behaviour or fright that I can see...it's almost as if he thinks that's what he's expected to do... Made easier by being ridden bareback. His action seems to be more violent when tacked up?

To me the girl looks very unbalanced, constantly in front of the movement and this makes it very easy for the pony to throw her. The video looks very set up to me, half the time she is bare back or riding 'sidesaddle' despite having a traditional saddle on. I think with a rider with better balance and who wanted the pony to work properly he would be very different

I was just about to say that 4faults- there's at least three or four where she hops off it before it goes to the lengths it does before she comes off in the other shots.

However, that does look like a bit of a git, we had a similar one on our yard, it had most of the tricks in the vid- with adults as well as kids! (slightly odd family, the mother bought it in every night all year round as it was 'scared of the dark'...!) it has been settled down now- she sold it into a riding school and the extra work has knocked the antics on the head! :)

Is it a first pony? If so I think it needs re-schooling :big grin:
He seems to enjoy being so playful, and gives her plenty of time to get on, I hope he is not shod, as even these little romps could cause an accident. Really needs someone who can stay on board, as he is getting away with it all the time, never seen a horse lie down after rearing, that was strange, but then not seen many go over either.
Sell it for filming, or sort it out, no more messing about.

Regardless of the reasons why this is happening, I wouldn't be letting a child of mine ride that pony. That rear over backwards would have been enough, but how many times in the video does she come off and land on her head? Are they going to wait until she breaks her neck?

The pony just looks like its taking the pee, but by the same token she looks like shes still having fun on it despite spending more time on the floor that actually on it. The rear was scary but i have to say plenty of kids (including some of you lot when you were kids) would have loved/had a Daft naughty pony to do stupid stunts on. I know I've done some Daft stuff for fun and never came to harm. She Deffo has guts!

Whilst in principle I agree with Auslander, it's not fair to judge really without knowing the backstory and I am sure as anything not perfect myself, I do think she is socking that horse in the mouth - certainly when it went over she pulled it back, and a couple of other times she looked to inadvertantly instigate the bucking by insensitive use of his mouth. It's also quite impressive that she has been bucked off so many times and not learnt to sit it... However, if she's learnt to sit it and not interfere with its mouth, you have to admire her guts for getting back on (repeatedly) :p

It's reassuring to know I am surrounded by experts that were born with perfect balance, seat, set of schooling skill and most of all, the wisdom years of experience bring

Couldn't agree more! What I see is a naughty pony, ridden by a couple of reasonably competent girls (as shown in other videos) of an age where I would not expect them to have the knowledge needed to resolve his naughtiness. He looks naughty rather than nasty (It was unfortunate that he went over backwards - the rider pulled him over due to loss of balance from his previous antics!) and is being fooled around with by a couple of kids who don't appear to be that bothered by his behaviour. I bet they think it's hilarious... I'd put money on them turning out very competent riders when they're older. I grew up with similar ponies, and it worked for me!

Agree with you re the hands - she's definitely to blame for the going over backwards, and she's hanging off its back teeth much of the time. I look at the video and see kids mucking around, and a pony that's probably the most popular animal on the yard because it's so flippin naughty. Maybe it's my dodgy Kiwi upbringing - I'd have had a right giggle, and learned a lot from this pony!! Would I put my son on this pony? Yep, I'd see it as a chance for him to learn the importance of getting a nappy horse off the leg and going forwards - although I'd give him a neckstrap so he couldn't pull it over backwards...

My beef was with the holier than thou attitudes!!

I worry about what will happen to the pony when the girls outgrow it,or get bored playing with it.

Who will come along a buy such a pony?
They need adult supervision from a competent rider, for the sake of the pony, who is just going along with this silly game.

Not going to pass any comments as it's in foreign and have no idea of the history, story etc... BUT when she got stuck on it's neck and slid off in slow motion and landed on her head it did make me snort:D Pony had no intention of being malicious whilst she was falling off, it just waited for her! Like it was the norm! x
