do you think this is resonable???

Rite sorry for the moan but where i keep gymbo and my freind who has mossy we have about a 2 acre field block of 4 shabby stables and the bloke we rent it off owns the builders yard next door and in our field we have a mound of sand shingle and god knows what else. we kept getting flooding outside our stables so asked kindly if they could bring the jcb over and dig us a trench in front of stables and fill with hard core then shingle then sand , so he comes over drags all the staw etc we had been putting there to soak the water up digs a 30cm trench

then puts hard core in drags about a acre of the field up leaves about a metre of thick sloppy mud and yet again another pile of sh*t in the yard and buggered off. So we had to brake our back luggin sand on top (as farrierhad just been and mossy had a puncture and bruising to his feet) (FROM THE STONES!!) anyway what i am trying to say is we pay £20 a week between us for this yard we have no electric hardly any field and no straw or hay included and we are getting through megga amounts of hay due to lack of grass? Do You think £10 a week is justifiable for this place as freind of mine his parents own a livery yard and they charge £20 a week plus 2 paddocks straw/hay and electric.

yeah i know that but considering this other place at extra £10 would have electric nice stables straw and hay included just seems like we are being ripped off! We are very happy where we are if you minus the bad points lol

I pay a similar amount of rent £11 per week for a field! I have no maintenance, no water, no elec, no stables, no shelter and no work done either. I pay on top of this for my field to be harrowed, rolled, hedges cut, ditch clearing, mud sorting out etc etc and arrange for contractors myself. I needed a field shelter but had to pay for it myself and maintain it.
We have spent a lot of money on this field over the years and improved it from a dock, thistle and ragwort infested mess to good grazing with good solid hedges. It is not my field and will never be so all the money I have spent on it will go to the farmers benefit in the long run....but I am grateful for it and feel I have a good deal. So if your guy is helping clear mud and put hardcore down...that is a good deal to me!!!

I tend to agree with Pottamus, you are renting the place & owner has actually arrived & done something for you. As a builder he probably has no idea as to what is needed so if he inadvertantly messes up the place then you need to tell him what you want doing. I expect he is renting this excess land as at present he has no real use for it.

You have rented it & as Pottamus says you will need to have work done on the place to keep it up to scratch. For £10 a week don't expect the facilities to be great or the owner to come & keep doing work for you. If you want that then be prepared for a massive price increase.
 
I think it soundsreasonable. I pay £600 a yar for two acres of extra grazing, it has no water or electricity. I had to fence and remove loads of ruubbish, it had a tumbledown shack which we have converted to a safe field shelter and I am constantly battling against rtagwort form th eprevious occupants. I pay it because it is so convientent, only a minutes walk form my house and stables.

If you dont like it, why not move to your friends parents yard? Sounds like a good deal there.
 
well we did say to him that it was abit of a mess and could he possibly come back over not excess land been there years he owns all the land round ours and he and his wife had 2 horses there years ago. and thought he would bve a bit more understanding. my freind who has been there over a year has spent alot of time and money on the yard doing it up but i suppose i will just have to agree to disagree with you all

For £10 a week you can't expect much more than you've got!

I pay £25 a week on a good yard for grazing & stable (DIY). That includes hay if they're stabled but not if they're out & obviously all feed is extra.
Included in that price is use of a XC course, indoor & outdoor school & 130 acres of off road riding.

If you're really that unhappy either move or put up with where you are. Having been on a less than great yard (broken fences, horses escaping onto main road as a consequence) I know the worry etc it can cause which is why I moved mine.

Not being funny but from your posts it seems like you don't want to move but are happy to have a moan about what you've got at the moment?
If things are really that bad & feed is costing you that much because of poor drainage/grazing then terminate the lease & move to your friends yard

You can't expect a JCB to not make a mess, especially in the middle of winter, that's plain stupid fantasy land and if I understood you right, then you actually asked him to dig the trench anyway, you can't have it both ways. You should have realised that is the sort of job for the summer when the land is not so soft, why didn't you dig it round yourselves with a shovel for the short term then you wouldn't be in this mess at all?

have you ever tried digging a trench with a shovel lol i guess not it took over a hour to do a small bit as really hard ground under a bit yeah just think i wanted to moan sorry everyone .

cant move them as not space at my friends was just comparing the prices

If you are happy why are you complaining? For what you are paying you get a fair deal. If you don't like it, look elsewhere.
