Do you tidy up after yourself and your horses?

I am on full livery. I will sweep the whole yard if I have a spare 10 minutes, if not I will do my area and pick up the pile. Mucking out day is Sunday and will usually get all the pee out

and then fork the muck properly on the muck heap. If I use the shower area I will wash the walls down and sweep it out. I always try to pick my horses feet out before taking her out the stable so I dont make a mess on the yard .... however some liveries dont do this and we all get nagged which I dont feel is intirely fair

can you talk to them about it as it only takes one person to not tidy up and it ruins the whole yard . i put a skip bucket and fork by the school gate and everyone uses it. i sometimes think i might go a bit OTT about the mess but i do like a clean yard and even when i was on diy livery i did. i wouldn't live in mess at home so why should my horses.

There is a poo scoop thing always by the arena gate and a tub to put the poo in!

I'm going to have to talk to them tonight i think, its making me really quite stressed now!

Just don't know what to say without being nasty and swearing (exactly what i feel like doing!)

On DIY yard with indoor stables. Always clean up after pony as does my friend. YOs daughter is in same block and doesn't In the other block our friends always clean up too. Also always tidy up the outdoor school. Although I don't use it, but will do it for friend whose pony I ride.

Im on Full Livery but will ALWAYS clean up after myself if I make a mess

In my opinion, its my mess so I dont expect anyone else to clean up after me. Having said that YM likes to keep our yard as clean as possible. Also after working on a yard for nearly 10 years I know how annoying it it to finish sweeping the yard and then some eijit walks across it without picking out feet!!!!

DIY livery - always clear up after own horses. Usually do more as well - sweep yard etc. I am pretty intolerant of those who don't, and, anyway, I hate a scruffy looking yard.

I always clear up after myself, and sweep the whole yard, the hay barn and anywhere else that needs doing. I love the yard looking neat and tidy but it does mean that some of the other liveries leave their mess as they know I'll clear it up!!!!

full livery but always clean up after myself, luckily Flash never poos when I'm riding him, ut I always sweep outside my stable after picking out his feet etc. It makes it nicer for everyone if we all do little things and respect the place

Whatever livery ive been on wether full or DIY ive always cleaned up after myself, its just politeness really...when i was on full livery, even tho the yard was small and she had a groom to do everything i still if i had a spare moment swept the whole yard - my way of saying thanks etc...

You just need to have a word with the people and say its not your job to clean up after them - you sweep the mess you make etc and clean the school, it's only fair they do the same. Unless they want to pay you to do it!!!!

I have my own small yard and used to have one livery (well not a livery, they kept their horse with me for free in return for help during the winter - not) they often didnt clear up after themselves because they were always in a hurry, it used to infuriate me, the woman only did a couple of hours work 3 days per week, whearas I do a 40 hour week. Even if they did sweep up it wasnt as clean as I would like, I am total anal when it comes to the cleanliness of the yard.

Am dreading saying anything about it though.... but i don't see why i should tidy up after them.

I do find it very rude.

They've also made a saddle rack fall off the wall because they keep putting the saddle on it the wrong way around!

What type of livery are you on?

How often do you sweep the yard?

Would you assume (without asking) that its the job of a younger person on the yard and leave it for them to do?

I assume it's the job of the youngest person...to sweep the whole yard. Why we ever banned using children as chimney sweeps is beyond me. THey were pretty handy down the mines too.

We are on DIY, I sweep outside my stable every day and pick Ralphs feet out before coming out of the stable, old habits die hard. Hate to see a dirty yard and it kills me when I've just swept my bit and someone comes past with a barrow and dumps straw/chippings on my clean bit

I sweep and tidy up mine and often other peoples mess!! I am a sweep aholic!!

I do find though that folk assume that the last person on the yard will tidy up! I used to, but now unfortunately I tidy up after myself, and if someone else leaves a trail of crap I just leave it! or sweep it in front of their box

Also, I just thought - all these kids nowadays wanting to be like famous riders like Ellen Whitaker and they buy all the gear etc, well I must be sad cos I saw an article on her once and I didnt go oooh nice horse or ohh nice jacket I went ohhh look how lovely and immaculate that yard is?!?! haha

I think I am a nutter!! I did once spend a DAY OFF cleaning a place I worked as it was bugging me soo much - the owner was very surprised thought I was mad and never thanked me

But at least it looked a lot more presentable for the horse sales the week after!

My stable is in a barn with a part dirt, part concrete floor. I try to keep it tidy as mine is the only horse in at present. The others use the yard for tacking up and shoeing. I would be embarrassed if I didn't clean up after them because I think it would reflect on me as Star is the only stabled horse at present.
