... metal curry comb?

I grew up in the UK and was taught to use them to clean brushes.

Now I live in the USA (have for many years) and it's very hard to find one (but I did!) Most Americans swipe their brishes on the stable door or something to clean them... or just don't bother (!)

So, if you live in the UK do you use one? Are they still common?

Definately, Bodybrush and curry comb. I am also very picky about bodybrushes. I had a really good one when I was a kid . The brush was quite old even then so it was circa 1960. It was an absolute scurf magnet and I have never found a brush quite as good since, ...but I keep looking...

Yes i use one on brushes...also on bodies makes a brilliant de-hairer at this time of year!!! (for horses :D)......*OMG, evil person, burn the witch!!* :D :D

Same here! Horses love it, must be like getting a good scratch off their mate! Only use on the fleshy parts of course (which on some of my beasties is pretty much everywhere :) )

I useit with a body brush and also when the ponies are moulting. They love it and it gets loads of hair out :) Glad it's not just me who uses it on the body. Most people are shocked when they see me do it. But it must be ok if horrid lets me do it ;) :p :D :D

Don't have one, must buy one. I don't see much difference between that and a shedding blade, which is the most efficient tool on my hairy cob.

I selected no as I use a plastic Curry Comb to clean my body brush :D

However, if i didn't have a plastic one, I would use a metal one! Wouldn't be without them! My horse is a filthy boy!! I give my body brush a good swipe on the curry comb every few brushes :p

i have one but i never really use it. i don't like to use body brushes on my horse because he lives out 24/7 even through winter, and they tend to take quite alot of grease out of their coats. and if i do use a body brush and the same with dandy brush i either scrape it again a plastic curry comb or on a gate or something.

Metal curry comb for the brushes and a stripping blade for the Highland Pony. Rubber hound mitt for the Thoroughbred because someone forgot to tell his coat should grow thicker in winter and not just change. (He moults in Spring, but it is a laughably small amount.)

. . . on my brushes, yes. On hoss, no. He's a very sensitive soul and finds the teeth too harsh - doesn't like the big shedding blades either . . . had to source a mini one - kinda like a furminator.

P

Yes use it with a body brush and another who uses it on the soft parts of the body, in fact my big chap who is very intolerant of Things He Does Not Like You Doing, nudges me when I stop to make me carry on using the metal curry comb on him and his lip droops happily when I do it. The only think that gives my horses more pleasure is my tarty Haflinger mare when I clean her ladybits but she's just a tramp :-)))

Just as I thought! Metal curry comb use is alive and well in the UK ;)

(I have tried to change the Wikipedia grooming page multiple times to reflect that people do use them, and that the US way is not the only way in the world. The person who has crowned him/herself in charge of that page has finally allowed the phrase “They are primarily designed for use on show cattle, but are frequently used to clean horse grooming brushes by moving the brush across the metal curry comb teeth every few strokes.”

Show cattle? All the old patents I found are for horse curry combs.

Then there’s him/her saying that a dandy brush = a water brush. Will not allow a change to that. Argh!

Seriously, if you think nobody cares try changing a Wikipedia page sometime… ;) )

Yes use it on the brushes. Madam would have a fit if I touched her with it, she is far too precious! Can't use a dandy brush or a plastic curry comb or a shedding blade

Yes, I always use a metal curry comb with my brush - 2 swipes with a brush then 2 swipes using the brush on the comb :) I also use the curry comb on the back of her hocks when they're caked in mud.

I have one, but do not use it as I don't use the body brush as horse lives out as much as poss. But I do use a furminator on her at this time of year and she does enjoy it. This is a very ticklish Arab mare so they must be pretty gentle...

No I can't see the point of them. I use a rubber curry comb both to clean the brush I'm using and to rub off any mud patches I come to as I go along and I couldn't do that with the metal ones.

I use one on my brushes but not on horses. Very rarely use a body brush though, rubber curry all the way!! Then I use my hands to smooth off any dust to stop the grease from escaping!!
