Ive barely ever ridden a horse with shoes let alone studs. my 14hh dutch x pony used to do road work and everything without shoes. yes, we're at a disadvantage jumping when the ground is wet, but there is no need to use a sledgehammer to crack a nut, when there is no need to. He even cleared 1.60 puissance on grass, barefoot.

Ive started to jump bigger on a horse now that NEEDS shoes, so if the ground is slippy when we start competing on grass, we'll proably but them on him as he isnt the most sure footed thing in the world!

Nope, my horse only has front shoes on, and being a youngster and taking things very slowly, I haven't done anything that would require him to have studs in yet. However, he seems like a fairly surefooted chap, so I'm hoping not to have to need them - only time will tell!
