Do You Wear A Hat?

LOL LOL LOL
Not wearing a hat - natural selection!

A baseball hat looks cool, dribbling and incontinence is not.

Very well made points.

Some people call riding without a hat stupid - these days I prefer to call it natural selection...

haha i agree.

I used to school my horse in thailand without a hat....would never get on someone elses horse without on though and whenever i went for a 'hack' i put my hat on straight away! I would school my horse now without a hat but only because I trust her 100% however my yard are very strict and i respect it. I would never be stupid and ride on the rode, jump, gallop etc without a hat and i would never get on a horse i didnt trust 100% without a hat!

so yes i would be naughty but im not!

I always wear a hat when riding mostly because what few brains I have left not addled by red wine, white wine gin and whisky need some protection especially as I have a propensity to 'eat dirt' from time to time.

I am no spring chicken having ridden for over twenty years. In that time I have fallen off but always wearing a hat. Still got concussion which meant two overnight stays in hospital. Don't want to think what it'dve been like if I hadn't worn one. It makes me furious to see riders on the road not wearing a hat.

I was looking through some old photos the other day and found one of me riding on holiday when I was about 11. I was wearing no hat and my school shoes, and my friend and I were doing round the world, unsupervised. How times have changed (probably for he better!).
Now I always wear a hat, although I have forgotton it a couple of times and only noticed half an hour later! I did feel really vulnerable when I realised! However, I do believe its personal choice - at least for adults.

I always wear a hat, but I have got on and ridden down the road thinking ahhh wind in my hair.... no wait.... thats not right..... and realised I'd forgotten mine! Has anyone ever done that?!

always wear a hat 99.9% of the time, when leading youngsters i do too, i got kicked by my young horse who spooked and bucked, luckily, or unluckily, it broke my arm but could have easily been my head!

Totally with you on that one, the number of times I've been within cm's off been booted in the head, reared up, boxed down at or cork screwed (twist, bucked off and kicked out at while sparked out on the ground) is too many to mention let alone just falling off and banging my head lol!

Always wear a hat without fail on every horse. No matter how well you know your horse and how bombproof it is, it is still a horse - it is so easy for a horse to stumble or slip and for you to have a bad fall. In this country where there are no extreme weather conditions to deal with there is NO excuse for not wearing a hat other than vanity and laziness in my opinion.
If you were to have an accident without a hat your insurance would not pay out.

I also always wear a body protector when on the young horses or behavioural problem horses. Why on earth wouldn't i?

I never ever even consider riding if i dont have a hat!! I went mad when my boss got her new horse and took it off to practise over our x country fences without a hat!!

Never ridden without one and don't plan on it.

The dealer near us has hopefully learnt her lesson now.She always hacked near us without a hat, on spooky, nutty youngsters that she had got the week before. She had all kind of gadgets on them and would ride around on her phone with no hat. We always said it was only a matter of time. Sure enough she fell off, had to be air lifted to hospital, had her skull drilled into to relieve blood pressure among other things

When we last saw her riding, about 4 or so months later, she was wearing a hat. Thank god.

I very rarely wear a hat - I always wear one when riding though

Always do, at RS we have to and when I'm on my friends horses I do just because I feel naked without one and don't want to risk it. Have a couple of times ridden with my chinstrap undone because I've forgotten to do it up
