Do you wear gaiters to compete?!

I have finally admitted that the long (leather) boots that I bought when I was 15 no longer fit me…….. Im now 24! I really can’t continue to wear my boots as the zips won’t do up and if they do I lose the circulation in my legs! They look like new as I only wear them for competitions and the odd lesson so I have decided to put them on ebay to go towards a new pair.

The reason for my post is that im not going to be able to buy a new pair straight away (funds are limited and lessons and competitions win hands down) so im thinking of buying a smart pair of gaiters to keep me going for a year. Could you recommend any that look smart enough for competitions (pictures would be fantastic) and are there people out there that compete at BD in them?
 
Depending on where you are based you can get your boots streatched. I did by this place in wincester and the results were brillient.

I put weight on in my calf during pregnancy and never lost it. My boots like yours were only used for competions and were immaculate and I couldnt justify replacing them at £150 upwards for a new pair. Worth giving them a call if you are relativly near. Im sure there are other places nation wide too.

I wear these all of the time around the yard, out hacking etc.... the leather is so much more supple than the cheaper ones and mine are 5 years old are worn everyday and with a wipe and bit of polish come up like new so the price reflects the quality. Who knows you may never need to buy a pair of long boots again with these?
 
My legs are too fat and short for long boots, so i always wear gaiters. Treadstone do beautiful ones, as do Ariat, I would definitely recommend them. As long as you get reasonably good quality ones, its hard to tell them apart from long boots without looking very closely.
 
I wear gaiters, and with spurs on you would think that they are long boots!

I wear treadstep pro gaiters and they are lovely, I got them as like you I could not afford a pair of long leather boots and my short boots were still in good condition
 
I do! I prefer mixing and matching jodhpur boots and gaiters to suit and find them comfier. I have Mountain Horse jodhpur boots and Ariat Crowne Pro gaiters. Ariat do a few different gaiters in difference price ranges.

I was advised by sales assistant to go for the smallest size possible in the shop (it took her AND me to force my leg into them!) as they do stretch and if you go for "comfy when new", they will stretch and not fit as well or look as good. A little painful for the first month until they break in, but worth it!

i wear ariat boots and mountain horse gaitors to compete in. also a brown pair of ariat boots & ariat leather gaitors for hunting. only wear proper long boots 4 showing.

brown ones. everyone always thought they were long boots
i wore them in the show ring til i could afford black long ones and now i wear them for everyday, cant go wrong with ariats IMO

I do, I've never been able to find long boots to fit my short fat calves and certainly can't afford to get a pair made, so I bought a pair of black leather mountain horse gaiters that are very plain. I love them and I think they look fine, if you look at this link you will see some pics of me competing in them at the w'end:
