Was doing some ground work with my new mare tonight and for various reasons ended up with reins on the side rings of a be nice halter (teething so not using bit otherwise I would have had her bridle on) and had her turning, stopping, walking on and rein back standing either side of her and holding the reins as if I was on her back. Anyone else do this with youngsters. It was hugely enjoyable and very productive.

I always do this, might not work if you had a big horse but as I have a theory in the size of horse I buy (never buy one if I cant see over its back lol) works for me. Suppose thats why I have ponies :)
The little sect B we brought on over the summer was done like this and she was ever so good when she progressed to being ridden. Lots of work from the ground pays dividends when you get on board.
