read the rules before you compete?????????????

In just interested as i was helping out at event yesterday and i'm sure people had readed their rule book

Not generally....and often don't read the schedule properly either before i enter. On more than one occasion i've walked the course to find the class is a 2-phase rather than A7 lol!

Wouldn't have said I've sat down and read them from cover to cover but I've given them a good 'skim' through... use them more for reference though.

not the most interesting of reading but doing 3 disciplines in one day I s'pose its important to know the ins and outs of the rules!

but i would of though people would, as it costs a minuim of £60 to enter, but add diesel and training cost and i bet you it cost about £200 per event. (talk ameuers -sp)
I thinks that defo worth reading - i know - there dry............. BUT

Urhh I thought I had until I did my first BSJA comp, I had no idea why they had rung the bell to stop me about 2/3rds the way round. I had had a fence down and didn't realise what a 2 phase was! I thought the course was rather long but as this was my first affiliated I just thought that was normal

Nope, only refer to it when I need to. I don't have the attention span to read the entire BE rule book (who does??) and parts of it are irrelevant to me anyway.

Well it depends why I got the big E. If I knew why and there was a perfectly valid reason then yes, put it down to experiance because things like that happen. But, if I didnt know why then I would question it and my rule book travels around in the lorry with me anyway.

there were some bacis errors and a couple of techncal one and it just shown poeple had read rules - so i was just interested what other people do.

When I first joined BE I read the rule book from cover to cover, I've also read the pony club eventing and dressage rule books from cover to cover and skimmed through the sj one. How sad am I?

hi,
yes i think that what ever sports you do you should know the rules of it.So that you never get in doubt of what you are allowed to do ,wear,use,etc...It's importante i think anyway, especially when you compete at a higher level when there are a lot of things than you're not allow to use or give.
