Everytime I think i am getting somewhere with my mare - Like being able to rider her better, feel as though I can trust her more or know her better and think I am actually getting somewhere she brings out a new quirk!! lol.. And I just realise I don't have clue in the grander scale of things!

So do your horses ever bring you down back to reality, when you get a bit too confident or cocky??

xx

Yup i get this all the time esp with jumping. only problem with coming down with a bumb, usually in my case it means broken bones!! His problem is that we will go well then all of a sudden he looses all his confidence and we have to take a few steps back. It is coming along as its only a couple of steps now rather than all the way back to the begining!

Yes, just when I think I've nailed the schooling, she finds a new evasion up her sleeve

Is it a "mare thing" to be incessantly awkward?

Yup, definitely. He gets all cocky going over a pole and I get confident with him, add on another one - go through the slow process of showing him 2 poles aren't scary, and he'll refuse to go over it and I'll go plonk off the side, or get a face full of neck!

Blummin' horses!!

I have to agree with that... lol My mare tests me out everytime I get on her back... Literally. And if i don't sort it out quicky, she will test me again and again that ride! oh the joys.x

Oh I'm glad to read these. I seem to have crisis of confidence over and over - just as trussardi says - we work & work on jumping, get confident then wham!! another stop/run out and back to square one. Two steps forward - one step back

Most definately. When I finally get Charlie of the left rein and working evenly on both reins I can guarentee that we will be back to square one the following day!
Then theres the whole xc thing, placed at open HT, eliminated at BE event following weekend which was a really nice, simple intro course (And we were in after show jumping!!!!

) And to top it off, clear at HT weekend following that..... Ahhh horses...gotta love em

Me too! Every time I think I am vaguely competent with some mundane task like bringing in, one of them loses the plot for no reason and flattens me!

That's horses for you!
