Do your horses pick their buckets up when they've finished eating?

If I feed my gelding and filly together, when my filly has finished she will go over to my geldings bucket and pick it up by the handle to steal it!! My gelding is never impressed! Sadly no pictures.

Yes, it is so sweet. If he finishes first he will toddle off and see what the mare has. She usually has something more interesting and is disinclined to share so he just picks her bowl up and walks off with it. I have to retrieve it and give it back to her.

Our elderly mare has a tea bucket and a trug of dried grass, when she has finished them both, she puts the tea bucket in the trug :D She has a tidy mind :D

Shiney balances his on the door so he can lick the edges, then throws it out. I have to make sure he always gets fed out of a heavy bucket as the wind blows the light ones down the field. :-)

Oh you have all got such well mannered horses. Caramac my shetland poo's in his feed bucket and his water bucket.

Picks a bucket up...Yes...looking cute....NO, he throws it out of the door in a temper when he realises it`s all gone
He`s on box rest at the minute and has now taken to playing football with his water bucket

My cob used to have one that went on the door when finshed he used to throw it at people heads so replaced it with soft rubber on the floor type for people saftey and he used to have a snack a ball and i use to leave stable door open with bar and he used to kick his ball at passing people charming horse

she pushes it about the place in disgust that its all finished - or if you're not paying enough attention to her - esp if you are talking to someone else - she throws it at them

My lad now pushes it to the door or just abandons it. However, we had to bulk his bucket up for quite a few weeks, after which we were able to go back to normal. The first day of back to normal he actually turned the bucket over to see if some had fallen out, his face was a picture!

Fany sits on them, so we have to have the flexi ones.

My gelding picks his up when he has finished and asks for more. I should have called him Oliver Twist

I used to have a yearling highland who had a small HiFi feed in winter. One day, I stupidly stood in front of him as he was finishing his feed. He picked the bucket up and launched it in an upward motion, catching me right under my nose. Doesn't half make your eyes leak. I learned very quickly, never, ever to do that again.

The horse next door to Nadia lobs the bucket out of the stable when he is finished.
And kayfm on here's horse used to at the yard we were on like to play with the bucket and try and get it over the wall into the other stable, had it on video on my old phone.
Nadia doesn't really do anything.

No, most aren't given the option.

I put their feed straight on the ground, feed bowls are more trouble than they are worth with outside horses :o

1 stalled horse does have a bowl as he has additives etc, the other has his gratuitous handful of pellets thrown on his pile of hay.

I would love my boys to give me their buckets when they've finished but after reading these I'm not sure it would be a good idea as I now have visions of them throwing them at people who are walking past the field down the lane

picks it up, hangs it over stable door then thwacks door with it repeatedly, who said only chimps could use tools :D

At the yard i work at the horses are usually fed hard feed before i get there, if i take 'toolong' to get them ready for turn out or don't feed her hay what she deems quick enough, one mare will pick up her bucket and chuck it over the door. Hopefully not as someone us passing though!

17hh of blue grey Thunder put his fetching purple feed bucket out when I went past. earlier.. he didn't throw it at me, so I think he was just being polite to save someone a job of disturbing him in his stable to pick it up in the morning! lol.

Buckets regularly come flying out of our stallions stable. He even gets a big corner/manger type bucket when he gets turned out and wangs it about like nobody's business.
