Dock leaves

What do you all do to manage dock leaves? I am guessing spray them… which spray do you use and do they have to be out of the paddock whilst it’s done? I’m sure I have seen there are some you can get which are not toxic to horses but I don’t know much about weed killers.

Will strimming keep them under control? I know it won’t remove them but will it help?

I strim mine off with a brush cutter in about may/june time and that keeps them all away for the rest of the year

ask local farmers or agri store. a licence is needed to spray fields. grazon90 usually works for docks nettles etc

I had no success with strimming all season, year after year. Limited success with SBK but in the end I spot sprayed from close up with glyphosate on days with no wind, to prevent killing any grass. I never kept the horses off the areas I had sprayed and never saw them try and eat the dead, dying or live dock.

I get the farmer next door to spray my fields I don't know what he uses but it gets rid of nettles, Dock and ragwort and basically any sort of weeds really.

I’ve tried spraying and cutting. Neither works perfectly and as I would rather not use weed killer I just mow mine down each week but it’s only an acre so very managble.

I used SBK in the past or Resolva Xtra Tough Weed Killer 3L

I used my ragfork to lever out/break chunks off most of the ones I had while the ground was damp last year. It took 2 days (8acre field and I'm a bit of a crock) but there are hardly any now.

I spot spray grazon pro which kills docks but need to repeat several times each year. Gradually reducing the numbers. It says safe to graze but I split the field and wait a few weeks before grazing. Be very aware of spraying ragwort as it becomes more palatable when dying.
