Called Dodson and Horrell yesterday to discuss cost effective ways of feeding my herd of 10, which is mixture of younsters, native ponies, donkeys and a 37 year old TBx.

They were exceptionally helpful and reccomended several different options of both their on and others products.

They have suggested Sugarbeet, Alfa, Hi Fibre or 16+ nuts dependent on horses and between 500g and 1kg per horse of Suregrow for weightgain.

Will suregrow put weight on them, website says for youngsters and breeding stock and have done some research and some people seem to use it as a balancer but cannot find any info about using it as weightgain products infact some say the opposite.

What are peoples thoughts?

Horse loves the stuff and I use it as a balancer for my 16.1 riding mare. She's bright, glossy and full of energy. I only feed about 500g per day though, it's for weight maintenance and if feeding 1kg she'd definitely gain weight.

I used it for my veteran after she was diagnosed with Cushings. Nice and easy for old teeth as well as very nutritious and low sugar.

I tried quite a few things last year and found Saracen Feeds Equi-jewel with Enduro 100 and sugarbeet was the only thing that really showed good results. Once my mare had gained weight I switched to Build and Glow as it was a bit cheaper and seemed to be very similar.
