Does a good competition record put some buyers off?

Out on our hack this morning I was discussing with Miss F's owner what should go on an ad when they formally put her up for sale. They have kept her longer than they intended as their other established dressage mare sustained an injury and owner's daughter has enjoyed teaching her the moves up to PSG, they have several younger horses to bring on and the injured mare is coming back into work. I think Miss F is the perfect grassroots BE horse/all rounder but because she's not advanced BE material her owner's daughter has focused on dressage and not done any BE with her this season, partly because it's cheaper but mainly because she's got a youngster that's already at novice. I think the fact that she's competing at PSG may put people off. Serious dressage riders would probably want a bigger flashier hotter horse and I think the mare would appreciate a more varied life. A 16 year old took her to camp and although she'd not done any sj or xc for ages the mare she behaved impeccably and skipped round everything. What would people put in an ad and where would you advertise? Focusing on the right market would seem key and they are asking a very sensible price but the right home is really important to them as she's home bred. They hate selling anything which is why they have too many horses! Owner is a good friend and although I love hacking Miss F I do know they need to sell and would love to be able to help them. So your thoughts please.

I'd market her as grassroots BE and I think the dressage would be a bonus then. For me, if I were looking for a dressage horse a lot of the joy is in the progressing them so while I'd be excited to have a sit on something like that I wouldn't look to buy a made psg horse personally so I'd emphasise the all rounder potential if she's being marketed as an amateur's horse

An honest, simple ad will get this one snapped up if she's as good as you say.
"Concentrated on dressage career due to family circumstances, but would make a fantastic grassroots eventer or competitive PC/RC allrounder". Then explain what points etc., been to camp, good to hack/do, level the jumping is actually at and she'll be out the door in no time. My first horse was highly schooled with virtually no jumping to speak of, but was never going to be a top flight dressage horse. I wanted to event. Worked perfectly.

If aiming at an allrounder home then focus on temperament and the fact she is good at everything. How big is the horse and what is their eventing record like as have a friend looking for a 14 year old kid who is looking for a first horse (good jockey) but wants a horse with a decent enough BE100 record. They have a good budget.

If I’d won the competition on the radio that I entered earlier I would be messaging you now for her details!

I suspect advertised as a classy all rounder or grassroots horse with a good dressage focus she won’t stay around for long. I know we’re the wrong time of year now for eventing but if they’re concerned she might get overlooked, can they take her xc schooling for some up to date photos or enter for some combined training events on a surface so she has a record out competing in something that isn’t dressage?

Just make sure to check points requirements etc before advertising. Recent PSG points would put her out of a lot of RC stuff and if she has eventing points (not foundation points) then she will be out of BE Grassroots and some BRC stuff too. These can be downgraded depending on how long she hasn't been registered for.

Thanks, she has too many points for RC dressage but only foundation points at BE.
