Does a pony have to wear a noseband for BSJA?

We have just discovered that she’s much happier without it. So wondering if wearing a cavesson for the sake of looks is really necessary.

Rule book says ‘bridles must be worn’. In the pony rules it states that ‘nosebands must be constructed of leather…Only one noseband may be worn’.

That’s it. So…is it compulsory to use one?

(Even checked FEI rules for clarification - tells me what I can’t have but doesn’t say a noseband is compulsory.)

I know BD have a similar rule and insist on a noseband however im sure ive seen plenty of showjumpers without

I think you need to be asking a BSJA judge. Could you rock up at the next convenient competition to you and lurk outside the judges box or ask one of the collecting ring stewards? Or put a question up on the BSJA website perhaphs.

Alternatively you could enter a couple of classes, go in nosebandless but have one with you in case.

Email them. They’re usually pretty helpful and that way you have it in writing should you ever get pulled up.

What constitutes a bridle though?! I've seen a top end showjumping using just a bit and reins!! Not sure if in this country but would have thought the rules would be across the board. Much braver than me!!

And me! As soon as I heard the name change years ago that word instantly came to mind. Their rules are stupid IMO.

I thought you did have to wear a noseband but I would think times must have changed since you can now compete in that bit and reins thing that is nowhere like a regular bridle. Just do it OP. The worst thatll happen if its not allowed is the judge will have a chat with you after. Dont look at FEI rules OP as they differ
