Hiya

Trying to organise a RC Camp (bit like PC Camp of old - remmebr that?!?) for my RC.

Wanted to see what other H&H bods think about format and price.....

Would you be interested - 3 days costs around £300 including 2 lessons per day (flat and/or jump) for 3 days and over night accommodation in bunk houses at local comp venue with great facilities. Breakfast and lunch included.

Thinking have a barbie one night and local pub another!

Sound fun? Or do people prefer to do their own thing / training clinics?

All views welcome!

I've booked in for two this year and both are sold out so there is definitely a market.

They are £150 for a 2 day and £210 for a 3 day 2 night one, lessons on friday pm and sunday morning so you are talking about 4 lessons.

That includes all meals but camping rather than bunk house.

Not at my age, but I think it would appeal to many. My concern would be where the horses will be overnight.

Presumably stabled as it's held at a competition venue. I would have no problem with that.

I think an adult camp is a great idea. i always wished I could join in when my daughter went to PC camp! And £300 sounds reasonable to me if breakfast and lunch is included.

My local riding club run a camp, I didn't get this year, but I'm reliably informed everyone had a brilliant time and it was sold out :) They still have the details up on their website if you want to see some of the ins and outs. http://sdrc.org.uk/events.html

Edit to add, I think that was about £150, two lessons Sat and Sun and one on Monday morning. Everyone stays in tents/horse boxes/caravans or their cars. The cost includes catering for breakfasts and dinners, you sort your own lunches.

The last RC camp I went to was over a decade ago so obviously prices have changed, 7 days (6 nights) was £450. Mon-Fri was as you suggested, flat lesson in morning, jump lesson in afternoon. At the weekend there was a ODE on the Saturday and Sunday was a horsey quiz with BBQ and prize giving with family welcome.

We had clinics available in the evening from learning how to lunge, learning how to plait to a talk with a farrier/vet/saddler etc. We also had 2 trips out, 1 to the cinema and another to the beach. Free time was spent looking after the horses, watching horsey videos etc.

The accommodation was very good, bunk houses, excellent facilities including a heated outdoor pool. Breakfast, lunch and dinner was included in the price.

Is this for children or adults? Make sure they are aware of any extra costs, things like dinner etc.

Sounds good to me but I really enjoyed the fact that we always ended with a competition. Even if you just have a small jumping comp or clear round at the end of the 3rd day I think everyone loves that and rosettes are really cheap to get, just make sure everyone gets one! lol

Not going to be impolite enough to ask your age but definitely a contingent of over 40's on the ones I'm going to.

There is competition stabling at a lot of these venues so the same as overnight at an event.

Really good idea. All the adult camps round us here are always sold out. The western riding camps particularly. I am planning to go to the next one and I am over 60 .................

I think they sound great and there has been a lot about them in horse magazines such as your horse. Wellington Riding centre also can arrange a few days when ever you like on your own horse or theirs.

Yes, def the sort of thing that I am doing :)
Returning to a camp I did last year, cost £295 for 4 nights in campus student accom, 4 lessons, dinner bed and breakfast with packed lunch, 2 or 3 competitions, stable and bedding inc, so just needing to turn up with horse, tack, hard feed and hay (or buy hay there) and clothes etc.
Got 2 indoor schools, outdoor school and xc course as well as fab hacking.

OP where are you planning this?

I would LOVE something like that! HOwever, many camps really concentrate just on dressage/jumping lessons. I'd really like one that had say a fun afternoon of silly mounted games or an obstacle course, TREC course or similar. :)

Camp is the reason I didn't give up my loan pony. It was brilliant, I learned so much, we finally properly bonded and am going again later this year. So much support from everyone.
I'm paying £225 Friday afternoon - Sunday. 10 hours riding, demonstration, 30 minute 1-1 session, all meals provided for us and home cooked aside for fish and chips Friday and caravans to sleep in! Unsurprisingly places go very quick!

I've been to RC Camp the last 2 years - £200 for 2 days. Included in that is stabling, bedding and haylege for the horses, approx 3 hrs tuition a day (flat & jumping - XC & SJ) and all human food. One night is Chinese and one night sunday roast. We camp in our lorries / tents, plus fruit / cake / drinks / snacks available throughout the day :)

I've just done a 3 night 4 day camp with BHS in Norfolk, arrived Tuesday morning, horses checked over by instructor as fit, stabled in temporary stabling, Wed, 2 x 1 hour group (not more than 4) lessons split into abilities either XC, SJ, poles and grids or flatwork. Hacking in adjacent forest in between if you wanted to. Breakfast, tea breaks, lunch and evening meal provided, use of showers etc, camping or use of bunkhouse. Lecture of some sort each evening, visit from Spillers weighbridge/nutritionist and a saddle fitter. Bring or buy your own hay/bedding. £300. Managed to fall off but going back with other horse next week!

Hey SteadyNeddy *BIG WAVES* was just thinking about you a couple of weeks ago! Must drop you a line to catch up with everything x

I think they're hugely popular - I tried to organise one years ago with my RC at the time, but the organisers didn't think it would be popular. Someone else picked up the idea a couple of years later and ran with it, and it got sold out every year.

I am going on Adult Camp this year - going with The Fuzzy Furry so all details as per her post :wink3: (I'd be up for another one as well).

5 weeks to go :D (and me too, for another one)

I've just come back from a BHS one at the Animal Defence Centre, Melton Mowbray. Fri eve to Sun eve, 4 lessons- SJ, grid work, XC and flat. Groups max 5, horses accommodation, haylage, bedding, and ensuite accommodation on the military base all excellent. £300. Also lectures from army farrier, vet and highly experienced BHS instructors.
It has revolutionised my riding- I was feeling v lacking in motivation beforehand. Highly recommend you hold one for your RC, they're great.

Wellington Riding as facilities are amazing and if weather bad they have multiple indoor schools!

Where you going for yours? X

I go to one and going on a riding club one as well.
First £120 for 3 days in paddock or £140 with stabling. Flat work on Friday night, sj and xc lessons Saturday and competition on Sunday. Food included and accommodation in caravan.
Second £120 2 nights. 3 lessons, xc, sj and flat. Meal included 1 night, need to arrange rest ourselves. Stabling and bed in cottage.

Can't think of anything better! Taking new pony to dressage camp (eek!) but can't wait to leave the ground on her and go to camp. Love the camps at somerford park! Prices similar to those already quoted.

And yes, I am so over 40 :)
