I am looking at buying a 2yr old filly (Thoroughbred x warm blood) who the breeder says will make 16 hands (Parents 16h and 15.3h). She had a heavy worm burden as a yearling which has stunted her growth. She looks like a yearling at the moment and the breeder has keep her back a year. At the moment she is standing at 13.3/14 hands. I have measured knee to coronet band and get 15 hands. Does a worm burden perminately stunt there growth? or is she just going to take longer to develop? I am concerned as she is quite fine that if she doesnt make a good height she is going to be too small.

i bought my yearling at 4 months old (Sold as 6 months!!) he had extremely heavy worm burden which took almost 4 months to recover from. there may be damage to his guts and organs however,,,,, he is 15hh now and shows no signs of any illness now , so i would speak to a vet yourself :)

when I bought my mare as a 10 month old foal she pood out what were more like snakes than worms before I even wormed her :(
She has grown on and hasnt been stunted in any way but I always worry about long term damage internally.
She must have been pretty badly infested to be so stunted, I wouldnt buy.
