I become like a woman possessed!

I obsess for days tweaking, snipping, trimming ends. Trying to get the perfect straight line. I find myself standing back from her squinting to see if i can see any stray hairs!

It goes on and on, lasts for a few weeks and then my mare's mane is back long again!

She has the thickest mane on a TB ive ever seen,
She looks like she has extensions in to add volume!! Its like she has Katie Price style hair pieces in, it is so thick!!

Does anybody else go through this strange obsession once every few weeks, or is it just me?

I hate doing it.....so i get my lovely obsessed mum to do it for me, she likes to do it and it always looks great.

Mind you Bug is nearing the end of four months holiday and her mane is super long so not sure mum will be so willing to do it for me.

i don't mind it - rake to take out thickness then chop with scissors....takes about 20mins ;)
my mare would kill me if i tried to pull it so i don't bother trying :)

Love doing my TB's, find it quite relaxing and its looks great when done so get a sense of satisfaction. Did it yesterday as it was getting a bit long and its not the thickest so looks better shorter. He doesnt mind me doing it though so no messing on which i am sure helps.

Hate it! I don't pull as it bothers ours, so rake it to take the thickness out (I do a bit each week as they both have enough manes to share around several horses!) and then use a solo comb type thing to the sort the length. Then a couple of weeks later it is long again!! Nice that they have such fast growing thick manes, but it is a pig of a job to keep them tidy and decent for plaiting and I don't like it!

Mine rears when I try to pull her mane so I thin it with the rake then solo comb to shorten she is still extremely suspicious of this procedure!! The last on was fab to do and I don't mind doing it but it can rip the skin off!!

Its not one of my favourite jobs, i try and pull it at the start of the winter quite short and leave it then till the spring. With having to stand on something to reach the top of his mane he finds it quite amusing to kick the object im stood on from under me so i keep falling off, as you can imagine it gets quite annoying. In the summer i try and make it last as long as possible but tends to need doing every other month

If you hate pulling manes, then follow Faro's simple logic - buy an Arab instead!

Then you'll never have to pull manes again - and you'll also discover why Arabs are the best breed in the world!

(And now all the native pony owners will say ditto this except change "Arab" to (XXX breed with natural mane and tail) :-)

I LOVE pulling manes and tails! I pull a few hairs out of all my horses tails every day, to prevent having to do that mammoth tail pulling session once a month - more for them than me, as I ADORE pulling a tail from scratch, but think it's a bit much to ask them to stand and deal with it for that long.
Their manes get a quick pull and tidy up once a week. My old boss used to say that she could always tell when I was a bit down because I'd go on a mane and tail mission!

I hate it as well, as it seems such a horrible thing to do to them, so I use a solo comb. They're both good to have their manes pulled but I still don't like doing it to them, it's silly I know but I'd hate somebody to start pulling my hair out, so I can't bring myself to do it!

Sorry just felt i needed to say I meant using a solo comb.

Bl**dy hell if i tried pulling my mares mane id be booted into the nearest stable wall!

Even with a solo comb I hate doing it!!

This! With a highland pony and a little Exmoor cross I can feel very smug. I love their huge mane and tails, the thicker and longer the better. :D

I love doing it, but in winter i let them grow, i am now getting itchy fingers as i want to start pulling them all, but as most of them life out i will hod off till spring then i get to have a whole week of mane pulling yipee
