How much is in a bale?!

We are going away for the weekend and this seems the most sensible option although the bales don't look particularly big and he will be in all weekend, fed ad lib (and he is greedy!!).

How much do you go through in a day/ night?!

Sorry for the ramblings, trying to get organised with very little time and a mountain of work to do

I tend to think that a bale of that size (I use a different make but its the same weight as Marksway) will last a horse 2 days BUT I have a big eater and if he was going to be in all the time I would allow a bale per 24 hours and then be grateful if there was some left!!

They are usually about 20kg.

If you are going to feed him alot of it then feed the blue bag as it is lower in protein, if you are only going to feed him a slice then go for the green bag as this is high in protein. If you have a horse that has a tendancy to tie up (azouteria)(sp) then don't feed the green bag.

My 16.3hh IDxTB used to get 2 sections from the green bag for the night, as any more would be too rich for her.

Oh I pay £5.50 per bale

Have a good time away.

Be careful with the quality if you buy this stuff, its been a really bad year for haylage making and we have all sorts of interesting moulds in this stuff- including blue moulds and grey spores yummy! 7 bags in a row I opened that I refused to feed. Now changed to hay having fed this stuff for 4 years. In answer to your question it is meant to last three days for fully stabled horse, I think adlib mine would eat a bale a day!

Thank you, took your advise and went with the blue as it will be fed ad lib for 2 days I didnt want to pump him full and protein (and probably energy!). I paid £6.10 which I didnt think was too bad.

Thank you, now I am nearly organised I am starting to relax and actually look forward to it

If your horse is not used to Horseage you may find he is a little 'loose' after eating it so I would start him off at home with a bale if you have the time otherwise it may upset his stomach.
