I have done, Not intentionally but i had my horse then loaned a horse for my daughter who had to be kept at that yard. Mine needed box rest mid-summer and the stable block was having work done so i moved him to another yard supposedly just for the box rest period.
He was so much calmer and i liked the yard better so i kept him there.
I found it really hard and hated having them at different places. I gave up the loan horse after the first few months as i found the time etc too much.
It may have been better if both horses were for me to ride or if one wasnt ridden but my problem was riding mine then having to go to the second yard to walk with my daughter whilst she rode. (and the same mucking out/poo picking everything literally took twice as long)
I hated it but have known people do it successfully- I guess its how you manage your time is the main factor.
I rent all my fields and have around 5 fields shared with a friend, I can have my horse/ponies in 3 different places but even if I walked from the two fields which are the furthest away from each other it would only take me 20 mins. My mare and shetland companion have been in all 5 fields and dont seem to be bothered when they go on the move, they look forward to moving has they know new grass is on its way. I suppose it would be less time consuming if I could kept them all together, but the fields would not be getting the breaks they get now when they are empty.
But I suppose I am lucky as everyone of the fields are at the most a 10 min walk from my house, my main field which gets the most use is where I had my stables built.
