This is for a family relative who lives in South Africa, cut a long story short there is a possibility they might be coming home but there is no way on this earth she will leave her horse behind. Bringing the dog home isn't a problem, she knows how to sort that but we have no idea where to turn about shipping the horse over.
Does anybody know where to start or who the best people to contact are to discuss further??? I personally dont know where to begin to even give her the slightest bit of information so wondered if anyone could help.

The DEFRA website should tell you about what tests and licences you need to import a horse, or you could give them a call tomorrow and ask.

The best bet is to go for an experienced international transporter, like John Parker Intl. They know everything about arranging papers for import.
But if she wants to go it alone, she needs to contact state vet in SA, they will give her contacts for vets in her area that can fill in a health certificate. She needs a few tests, amongst others Coggins.
She will also need a route plan with stops arranged, the driver will have to fill in the data as he progresses... and I think that's it.
I'm not sure if horses from SA need to go into quarantine.
