to import a horse from Europe or what quarantine measures are in place? NOT that I am planning on doing it but I was just astonished at how cheap the foals are at Piber, the official Spanish Riding School stud and I could only think it must be because of the horrendous import costs. I mean I'm not saying I could afford a field full but they're cheaper than I would have expected!

My friend brought a horse back from Cyprus which is about as far away as you can get in Europe and it cost her around 2k 7 years ago. Think she only paid 1k for him too. Quarantine-wise, I remember he had to spend two weeks in a isolation stable and had a series of blood tests but not sure what happened when he reached UK.

Phew. Which puts the Lippizzaner foals at about 3 thousand pounds I reckon. Minimum.

I think you can do it for less than £2k tbh. Ask Weezy, she brought one in from Spain last year

Yeah? They're such wonderful horses Lippizzaners - it's a shame you don't see more foreign breeds for sale over here rather than the staple diet we have. Still, it would be completely wasted on me - I would never buy anything fancy that deserved to be seen. Having said that, as Dales are a rare breed that would mean I shouldn't buy a Dales!

OK - so I have just read the warmblood post - apparently I am being stupid for thinking I would waste a good horse? I'm still not convinced though...

Would the horse think it was wasted?
Just because a horse could do grade A doesnt mean it wouldnt be perfectly happy as a lawnmower!
If its what you want go for it.

Food for thought, where did you see the Lippy's for sale??

Have always loved them, however doubt I could do those air above ground, more like fall flat on my face on the ground!

I know you're right anima. It just wouldn't seem right though - good horses are in the minority and competitive riders are in the majority!

I will find the link for the lippizzaner stud - one moment...

£880 quid for mine to come from Southern Spain to here - so a fair distance and a ferry trip - and that isnt the cheapest quote either!

As for quarentine, there is nothng in place other than, depending on country of orign, certain thngs have to be innoculated for and vet checked but the local vet and transporter sorts that out
