does anybody pay LESS than £4 for small bale of hay??

Oh it got better than that. I'd agreed to get hay for another horse owner, too, but in the same convo he said he'd sold all her hay to a dealer, as he was paying more. As you can imagine, she's less than impressed and hasn't spoken to me since!

We are selling at £3.50 a bale delivered straight off the field and it will be at least £4 out of the barn.

We simply cannot afford to sell it any cheaper as the yield is so low - one field of ten acres produced just under 200 bales this time, in the past we've had over a thousand off it.

Paid £4.50 small bale delivered & stacked in the barn from (very) local farmer. Would have been £4 for delivered off the field, but I cut the order down from last year as still had grass at end of the winter & didn't use nearly as much as usual (despite snows!)

He's sold the rest of the field & the field next door to local feed merchant for £5.50 per bale which they collected, & which they are selling straight on for £6.50 a bale

Went up from £3.00 to £3.50 which we thought was bloody expensive - I suppose not! Very local farmer down the road, this years stuff, very good quality, delivered and stacked for us :) We get as much delivered whenever we want - usually around 150 bales at a time (we're on a livery yard) and have up to 6 deliveries. He's happy to keep supplying us and once has an idea of what we want sells the surplus for £5 a bale to a merchant!

I'm Wales/Cheshire border :)

Im in south lincs. So far ive paid £3.10 a bale for last year old hay delivered. Then £3 a bale new hay straight off field. £30 big round bales new hay delivered. I now have enough for majority of winter but hoping to get some more £30 bales delivered soon. I was very worried beginning of spring / summer as usual supplier has less fields this year and is selling on first come first served basis, but have managed to have found 3 new suppliers who only want to sell to people they know and with no hassle so may be ok.

5, 6, 7 pounds! Dear Lord, how on earth can anyone afford to feed a horse?

I was using 20-25 bales (or the equivalent) A DAY last winter, I'd cut my throat if I had to fund horses in the UK, and I certainly would only have one:( I've just paid $2000 for 1000 (60lb) bales off the field, my rounds cost $30 delivered, last year straw was the same as hay as it was an awful year and I didn't feed as much straw as I usually do because I couldn't get hold of it, better weather this year and I'm picking up rounds for $10.
