A friend is trying to find a smaller version of this bit for her new boy, the whole central link rotates - Google is no help as neither of us know what it's called, we've tried various search terms with no luck. Does anyone know what it's called or anywhere that sells it? Thanks in advance :-)

Eggbutts are only good options with horses who are very still with their tongue .
Any horse that shows any indication of being diffcult with the tongue will prefer a loose ring as it's easier for the horse to relieve tongue pressure .

Interesting things are bits!!

The only thing I thought when looking at that bit was that if you had a horse with particularly narrow bars, if the bit was to be pulled across the mouth, that rather abrupt gap between the end of the arm and the French link could cause discomfort. This could be remedied by the addition of rubber biscuits though.

Sorry, OP, not wanting to be negative, each horses mouth is different and you use what your horses go well in, it was just a minor observation that's all!.

my old lusitano loved these bits (Korsteel make them) though he had quite a fat tongue and low bars-even though the bit is a bit 'fat', the plate sits where its comfortable for the individual. I used to have a fulmer version and sold it, wish I hadn't as I now have a 4yo that might like it.
