Does anyone actually feed "good-doers" that much feed?!

I think it's all one massive con! I have really struggled with my lardy-boy's weight. I tried Spillers and Allen and Page for advice and the amounts they recommended to feed were ridiculous! Given that a horse's stomach is meant to be small, A &P were recommending what made up to about a bucketful! I tried a balancer as I thought less calories, but it put weight on him. So I was just feeding a general purpose powdered supplement with half a scoop of Cool Fibre.
BUT I have since discovered Dodson and Horrell Equibites and they have been an absolute godsend! I don;t know why more people don't feed them! They are little treats, found in a big white bucket normally in the treats section of the feed shop. They provide all the vitamins and minerals horsey needs, in a very small and TASTY treat. They were great to give after a ride in the summer while horsey was on 24 hour turnout, not a real feed but I knew he was getting what he needed. His coat gleams and his feet are great.
Now they are in at night he gets his few in his bowl with some carrot and a sprinkling of chaff, so he gets a bucket at the same time as his mate but with negligible calories.

My feed bill is now about £8 a month and weight has started (slowly) dropping off horse now he has been clipped and has soaked hay. MUCH cheaper than feeding a balancer :)
