Hi all, my horse has Cushings and whilst doing some general research via Google, I came across a website called VioVet which sells various supplements etc for horses, dogs and cat. I was surprised to find it sells Prascends and Bute, is this normal?

I always thought these types of drugs were supposed to by prescribed by a vet. Is it safe for me to keep topping up my Prascend and Bute by this site, are they well known?

Your vet should write you a prescription (if he has examined the horse and confirmed the diagnosis) but lots charge upwards of £10 for it. If you do go this route ask your vet to put at least one repeat on so you get 2 prescriptions for the price of one :) Vetmedic seems to be the cheapest for Prascend at the moment, and you only have to send them a scan or photograph of the prescription so it is a fast and efficient service.
I did ask my vet about a prescription for my veteran mare's Danilon, whereupon he supplied them to me at discounted price instead - worth asking. I haven't actually found much savings buying Danilon on line, although the Prascend is a lot cheaper.

Thank you, this may be worth me doing as my mare is now on 4 Prascend a day and I am no longer covered by insurance. I buy 200 tablets at a time so any saving would be great!

My horse is on long term medication which I had been buying from the vets every 2 months or so. I saw an advertisement for online meds and phoned them to see what it would cost to buy from them (with prescription).

It was about £85 cheaper so I spoke to my vet and said what I had discovered and they are now matching the price that I would have paid online. You could try that. The insurance on it has run out so it comes out my pocket.

I get one of my mares Regumate from Pet Dispensary - my vet couldn't provide it at the same cost and is happy to provide me with a prescription to get it online. I save about £60 doing it this way.
