yes like how you start like for instance like bowing or Spanish walk getting them started in understanding what you want he will stand on platforms etc and used treats but he can get a bit nippy

I started using a carrot as a lure, and just kept practicing untill he was confident to go down and balance down there. Now I just pick his hoof up and step back towards his hind legs. Working on getting him to do it with just a tap on his leg so I can do it mounted too. Mostly I just use it so I can do this though:

He'll do a circus bow (without kneeling down) when ridden by tapping him between his front legs too

I started doing i on the ground with a lure, then asking by tapping underneath between his forelegs. Then started doing it mounted coupling the tapping aid to a lure on a schooling whip (as in the photo above) then working without the lure entirely :)

I've taught my boy to pick up one leg to say 'please' for a treat and to bow. (He can do both of these things too when ridden!) I taught him using food and just by repeating what I was asking him to do. I have even managed to teach him how to 'smile' when he has his photo taken! :D :p

We do display and Alta Escuela work with our horses (Spanish walk, pesade, jambette, reveránce, etc.), not tricks as such. There a couple of books that I could recommend, but like all else with horses you cannot really train from books.
