For their horse/pony, that is!

I'm 5"4 and weigh 9/10 stone, my little man is 15hh and I do sometimes get told that I look too big!

How tall are you and how tall is your horse? Do you get told you look too big/small?

:D

I'm 5'4" slightly built and my cobby lad is just 15hh by a whisker :D I think we look ok together although if I could make him wider I would I always think he looks smaller than he is because he's quite narrow for a cob :D Mind you I grew up riding fattie highlands :D Love them! :D

HA! I'm over 5'8 and ride a 14,1 so your friends would probably have a fit if they saw me ;)

Don't think I look outrageous either...

I guess it depends on how the horse is built. I am 5'6'' and I have ridden diddly 13HH exmoors! Because they were built like sofas on legs I was perfectly well horsed.

My usual steed for lessons is 15HH but again because he is a broad backed cob I don't look as though I need a pair of roller skates to glide over the arena surface with my feet!!

Both myself and my 14yr old daughter are 5'6". She has a 14.2hh cob and I have a 15.3hh ISH we both look ok on them, although my daughter keeps being told she's "going to need a bigger horse soon" much to her disgust!

Really???

I'm just shy of 6ft & my boy is 15hh with his shoes on! He takes my leg up better that a 16.2hh TB as hes a stocky Section D. Get comments all the time, I tell them to get stuffed :D I'm happy, he's happy (I'm 10 stone) I dont get the issue!

im not tall at just 5 feet 6 inches with long legs a short body, and a very small head. Yes a freak, but showed 14hh Highlands under saddle without a problem, if your pony has a decent depth to it you won't look too big, which you are not anyway.

It depends on how you are built though. I am just under 5.5 but have long legs comparatively speaking. Unfortunately its not a Julia Roberts/Pretty woman sort of thing.. therefore I look "wrong" on smaller horses as need something to take my leg up. I know people who are taller than me who look better on smaller as they are shorter in the actual leg. I can get away with something that is very deep in the girth at 15.2 but that is pushing it. My own horses are just under 16.3 and I really do not look overhorsed on them.

Can't see how you would look big on a 15hh horse

I'm 5'6 and ride a 14.2, and I could probably be a few inches taller and look completely fine too

I am way too big on mine (he is 14.1hh Welsh D and I am 5ft6 just had a baby!) but he still seems happy with me and can give me a stress fracture in my hand out hunting!

I am 5ft 4in and a lot heavier than i'd like to be currently!

My boy is a 13.3 Haffy.

This was us at the weekend

Ignore the fact he is asleep...

I think I look fine on him, and want to lose a stone so will look even better.

I'm 5'6" and have a New Forest X who will be 4 in May. She is JUST touching 14hh although her bum indicates she has another inch or two to go yet. Although I look big on her, I don't find any problem with her taking up my leg as she is pretty stocky - in fact she probably takes up my leg as much as my 16.1hh lightweight TB.

OH is 6ft2" with the worlds longest legs and he manages to make any horse look pony sized so he gets comments all the time about "looking big". He doesn't like big horses either which makes it worse! Our mare is probably 16hh on her tip toes now and people wonder why we didn't get something bigger, but then I've seen him looking lanky on a 17.3hh. There is a picture on my profile of him on a 15.1hh that he rode and competed regularly, he has ridden smaller but starts to struggle to balance as his legs are swinging.

If you are tall on a small horse swan neck spurs are your friend.

Im 5,6 and 8-9stone pre pregnancy and have 14.3 spindly anglo and a 15hh luso and I think I look fine on both never had any comments that beg to differ (not to my face anyway!) ignore stupid people who tell you your too big theyre probobly just jelous stuck up know it alls. Your horse would let you know if he thort you were too big!

No, however, if I bought a mini and decided to go flying around on said mini I'd probably get told I'm too big. More often than not I get, wow that's a big horse. Woops, nope, she's not really that big now is she. Why do you want a big horse? I don't, I bred her, she's mine, I'm not selling....blah blah blah.

It goes both ways!

Terri

I used to get told I was too tall for my old 13hh mare. I was 8st/8.6st MAX and 5ft3 1/2. I was tall yes but not too big (heavy).

Baby horse is about 13.2hh atm, again I'll be too tall but I'll be 9st when I back her.

Coblet is 14.2hh and I'm 10st atm.

I will always maintain that unless I'm genuinely too heavy (and 9st is not for a native type!) I don't give a stuff what other people say and think.

5'10 with a 14.2 connie x tb. She's very full up, & doesn't have a particularly short neck, & takes up a suprising amount of leg. I'm mainly legs, so my upper body looks fine on her. Legs are too long (36") & without stirrups are halfway to her knees, & even with I ride v long so not much better. I just use my calves, or swan neck spurs when we used to do more precise stuff. Jumping we're fine, I have my stirrups same length I would on a big horse without them getting in the way. Because I'm thin & its just my legs that are too long, people don't notice as easily as they do if I ride a shorter necked 14.2. It's never really been an issue. Only rude comments I've had are from the odd person who slags everything & everyone regardless.

Well your friends would almost certainly have a fit at me...

I am 6ft, with long legs and I have a 15.0hh (well she's really 14.3) and she's a TB and I think we look ok, I personally prefer smaller horses, cheaper to keep and we have just as much fun! :D

Would attach a photo but don't know how haha ;)

I don't think there is anything wrong with taller people riding smaller horses, ponies as long as your comfortable :D although I did ride 13.2hh KWPN, yes she definitely was this! She just didn't grow and I felt big on her but she rode big!

I'm 5ft 3" and 8.5 stone. I did have a 14.2 on loan but I felt too big for him. I have a stumpy body and long legs and just felt wrong on him. I have a 15.1 and a 17 now and I feel fine on both of those. I don't *think* I look small on the bigger one.

I'm 5ft2 and a shade under 12st. My lad is 14hh and a Welsh C x good chunky type. Takes my leg well. I've had 5ft9 friends on him for jump work and he's taken them fine
