Right, we have one very tallented youngster. She is fab. Was working really well recently, lovely and soft and supple on the flat, and her SJ has really been great. BUT every little cut / nick / knock on a pole she gets, she blows up like a balloon the next day and is lame. The day after she is fine, sound as anything and the swelling goes down. But seriously, I have never known such a mellodramatic horse! She is bred to event, but I'm really doubting if she is tough enough... it also doesnt help that she likes to get herself into scrapes and isnt the most careful horse in the field :-(

I guess her saving grace is that she is a very clean jumper and so it is very rare that she touches a pole!

So I'm having sad times... I have to wrap her up like she's in cotton wool. Oh, on that note - does anyone use turnout boots? Are any of then any good? Do they stay on? Do they rub?

And if anyone knows how to make her less melodramatic, please make my day and let me know!!

I can't offer any advice other than to say that I share your pain. I've gone from having a hardy cob who wouldn't complain unless her leg had fallen off to a horse that limps if she kicks a trotting pole.

I'm trying to look at the positive side and think well at least I'm never going to ride her with an injury, she tells me straight away if she doesn't feel right.

While I'd like to wrap her up in cotton wool I don't turnout in anything but overreach boots. She's out 24/7 in summer so she couldn't wear boots the entire time. Its just a good thing we don't do showing....
