i have had a really bad back and doctors said i had a crushed spine at 11 years old. Im 17 now and feel so much older than i am due to the pain of my back and the falls ive had. So ive started seeing a chiro and its really helped. She said how much im out of balance and how weak my pelvis and back is. This was obviously affecting the horses i ride too. In photos i like huddle over to try and protect my back when riding. But hopefully with some work it will help me be a better rider. Just wondering if anyone else has backproblems and if it affects there riding?

Yes yes and yes!

My friend is the same as you, hurt her back and learnt to ride in ways to protect it, huddled up in trot, forward seat in canter. My friend is much older than you and gave up horses for a while because of her back pain only getting back into it a couple of years ago. Her back is now much better and she is having to learn to ride differently as she still rides to protect her back as she did before. She does always ride in a BP just incase she comes off.

Personally I have just booked my first Chiro appointment. I spend £££ on lessons, back lady for the horses, saddle fitter etc when my main problem is the fact that *I* am a wonkey donkey which causes both my horses to be one sided and that until I get sorted out we cannot progress!

Sounds like you are on the mend so I hope things are now onwards and upwards for you :)

I suffer too, I finally went to see a sports physio who said it was muscular??. He did say that my stomach muscles were weak and if I strengthened them it would help my back. Some mornings I have to roll out of bed, once Im on the go Im ok. Standing or walking for a long time makes it really ache, as does riding for any length of time. I must get it looked at by my doctor who may refer me to someone? as I paid myself for the physio and at £60 a go, I cant afford too many appointments!
