Does anyone else play 'tongues' with their horse...?

We had a temporary livery come and stay with us recently. She brought a beautiful, very playful Stallion.

He would literally stand there all day with his head hanging out of the stable with his tongue between his teeth...goading you on to grap and pull it!!

I'd never noticed that horses do it to each other let alone letting us humans do it to them. The livery showed me how to 'play' with my boy, as horses would and sure enough, he sticks his tongue out and lets me catch and pull it. Lovely for bonding!!

Any other little games that you play with you horses????
 
YES......YES.......YES!!!!
I though my Sec C was the only one who did this!!!
He licks his lips then puts his top lip over his top teeth, and sticks his tongue out to be pulled, the harder you pull (within reason) the more he loves it. If you stop before he is ready, he shoves his tongue in your face!
People can't quite believe it when they see it.:)

Your livery showed you how! SPILL! How on earth? I'm totally baffled.

Lenny plays "Look Mum, I've finished my dinner and I can fit both of my (frankly huge) feet in my feed bucket at once and I WILL stand here until you give me my hay" and "I'm not comfortable unless your zip toggle/bra strap/ belt are between my teeth" It's like he doesn't want the food-bringer wandering off so holds on to me no matter what.

He's quite a character. He follows me with his eyes when I'm walking SJ courses too, how he can pick me out from the swarms of people in hats and white johds and black jackets I have no idea! He also gives his 'paw' for a polo. Bless :D

Bailey has however played, "tongues" in a slightly different manner before...

When you kiss him on the nose he wiggles his lips as though he is puckering up; he has been known to play little games like licking your face instead (and is very amused when he sees the normal "bleurgh" reaction!).

He decided to try and get a kiss off of my other half; OH had turned his head round to face Bailey as he was talking to me (so mouth open) and Bailey decided to give OH a game of tonsil hockey :D

Don't think I have laughed so hard - OH was shell shocked!

Bailey does love the boys :D

I just got the oddest look from my family as I snorted over my laptop. That really did make me laugh!

I was literally crossing my legs trying not to wet myself, it was that funny.

The image I have in my mind is OH looking at me with a look on face as though he had just been taking advantage of, and Bailey looking at me with his ears pricked and the smuggest little grin on his face; wish I could transfer the image to my computer from my head!!

Sorry about the look you got LOL :D
 
A mare at my friend's yard loves to have her whiskers pulled gently. Doesnt want any other face rubs but if you pull her whiskers she'll go all dozy.

Funny girl!
 
My YM's welsh cob does it...she grabs it and gives it a scratch (he loves it), i try to play while talking to him, but not practiced enough to grab it properly yet :D...theres at least 1 other at the yard that I can think of who's you can grab briefly while they are licking your hand.

No No NO!! They ALL do it...just usually when they are all the way down at the bottom of the field and we can't see them :D And the harder you pull the more they tend to enjoy it ;)

Blow into his mouth/nostrils/teeth (if he lifts his lips) and stick your index finger into the side of his mouth (not as hard as you would if you were trying to get him to accept a bit) and just wiggle about!! He should eventually start sticking his tongue out - you will have to be quick though - it's hard to go from blowing up their noses to grabbing their tongue!!

I play 'frogs' - I blow into her mouth at the side and her cheeks puff up like a puffer frog! She cheats sometimes by opening her mouth, so the effect is lost. God, we're a strange lot!

This image had me in fits lol!

Osc would not be impressed if i tried any of this. He only likes a head scratch after he's been worked, and will only now and again come and stand with his head over my shoulder and doze while i stroke his face. That's as much affection as you get from him, he's far too important to be seen interacting with the slaves when they should be shovelling his pooh or fetching him more food.
 
My old pony used to love this game! He also learnt to give 'kisses' in return for a treat. If you stood in front of him with one hand behind you're back he'd stick his top lip up (like when they smell something funny) and stick it in your face! Problem was, if he wanted a treat while you were mucking out for example, he'd follow you round trying to give you kisses...He's known to chase my mum round the yard like it because he saw her chocolate biscuits! haha they do have funny habits...

I tried recently to teach my boy to 'kiss' me using treats.... He got far to excited and I subsequently got a bust lip :o

Death by frogs!! I love it

In late summer, we get a flurry of baby frogs at the yard. My poor boy had the most puzzled look on his face watching them all hop around. If you could imagine a horse going cross eyed with wonderment...
 
My boy likes it when I grab his top lip! :p He also likes it when I rub him on his back - he turns around and grooms me back! :p He can also drink juice out of a bottle, and take a carrot out of my mouth. ;) I've taught him how to bow; both with me on the ground and with me on him and how to say please for a treat. He is very food orientated so I think I could teach him just about anything using food!
 
Hm. Not tried playing with Dizz's tongue... will give it a try though :D :D

The closest we get is her leaning her nose on my stomach (think she's trying to tell me something?!), and has her nostrils stroked and tickled. She goes all sleepy :D
 
Kaylouise69 - He used to just try and bite the top of the bottle so I have taught him by holding it up in the air and tilting it at the right angle so he just put his lips on the edge of it and then he managed to drink! It took him a while to get the hang of it, but now whenever he sees me with a drink, he stretches his neck out to tell me he wants so too! :p
