does anyone else poo pick in the snow??

I have 4 living out on adlib hay & 2 stabled at night but out for at least 10 hours a day with adlib hay. I poo pick once possibly twice a day as would otherwise be dreading the major clear up when the snow goes. I am the only one on my yard that poo picks in this - am I mental or have OCD or both?? Or does snow = lazities?? I can't leave the horses stood in their own mess. Or could it be that I care about the land more than others as I own it?? :-p
 
I can't be dealing with pushing the wheelbarrow through the snow tbh .. But not looking forward to when it melts! It's much worse then so I can't win :p
 
I will hold my hands up to being an OCD poo picker. I even get my OH to pick any stray ones in the day when he goes up to walk the dogs. People do generally think I'm mad as I have been seen to do it in a full on hurricane style storm even though my girl was not going back out until the next day, I also have a head torch in case its dark when I get down so I can still poo pick :o
Then again I get told I mollycoddle my horse in most areas so maybe we just care more than most ;)
 
I do too! Much better to keep on top of it, it's easier in snow than when it's all wet and muddy :-) so hands up another OCD poo picker here .
 
I do,it only takes 5 minutes as we've just the one pony,but I'm happier doing it daily.Plus it means that I notice if there are fewer droppings than normal or anything amiss.The thought of spending hours picking up a weeks worth doesn't appeal.
 
You are not alone, we poo pick every day, I even did it Christmas day, snow rain still needs doing, as 2 ponios in the feild 24/7 can not really afford to leave it. Agree that a pick axe may just be required:)
 
i try to keep on top of it.. but if its frozen to the ground then i have to remember where it is to get it when its thawed - horse has areas to check so don't have to search the whole field ;D

With 20 + horses on 50 acres of paddocks (say a minimum 10 piles each a day = 200 +) Forget it. I harrow the lot when it thaws.

It hasn't gone above -18C out of the wind today, I have better things to do than look for muck in 6" of snow.
 
I do, but not IN snow - after its stopped! :p

Twice a day when they are out 24/7 in the spring/summer/autumn
& every evening (just about) in the winter.
Doesnt take long after work in the winter - quick pull on of wellies & yard anorak - torch in hand & off I bumble round the paddock :D

This time of the year thay are usually in smaller 1 acre paddocks anyway, so its easier to do.
 
No, they don't go out as often in the snow so I'm just going to wait until it's thawed. I cleared the paddocks completely before the snow came as soon as I saw it was forecasted so it's not that bad. I am however dreading the task when it does all melt...
 
Nope im afraid winter poo picking goes a miss.. whether it be snow/mud/rain... I cant see it for starters as gernerally the horses are done in the dark of the morning and in the dark of the evening, and really after a major knee op in 2010 its still not what it should be, I cant be pushing a wheelbarrow clogged up with clay-mud and end up risking doing it serious damage so I cant do anything and end up on crutches.

It will all be harrowed and rolled when the ground is dry enough to take the quad bike across it.

Summer I do it most days without fail.
 
My name is c2b and I am an obsessive poo picker. Yes I did poo pick in the snow.
I am going away for 4 days soon. Have told the person looking after my mare not to bother. She works long hours and doesn't do her own field everyday just at weekends. Her boys don't seem any the worse for it. How will I cope?
 
Absolutely, I must look insane though, trudging through the snow with old ladies yard coat and rasta hat on. I think even the horses give a me a sneaky, shes a nutty woman, look. I like poo picking anyway, beats the gym and I can enjoy choc cake after;)
