Does anyone else worry when............

your horses are out at night and it rains?

Last night, just as i put Jed out, it started to rain, thought it would only be a shower, but it went on for a few hours. Normally i put a rug on but it was soooo mild last night after ide ridden.

I woke up at around 2am sweating and worrying about my horse being wet and cold!

Buddy isnt turned out a night...but i use to even worry about him being in the rain all day. Luckily where i moved him they dont turn out in bad weather so things are alot better now.

I do, then I drag my ass out of bed, go and check them and they are in the middle of the field, munching the grass without a worry in the world - my advice - go back to sleep!!

Not this time of year I don't. It's not cold & they're hardly likely to melt!

Winter I'd be worried but then if it's cold I rug up overnight as she lives out. I only bring her in overnight if it stormy or very nasty weather.

As I said, I don't worry too much this time of the year, it's mild & the weather isn't that bad.

Yes - but then wonder why and get a grip of myself. They've managed or thousands of years without us interferring and rugging them up for the slightest shower. They won't melt, as long as don't overwash them they have natural oils in their coats which act as a water barrier so that the wet doesn't penetrate to their skin, and since you do worry it's highly unlikely they're going to be out for weeks on end in prolonged wet conditions which is the only time you'd need to actually worry.

yep, i find the weather forecast is compulsive viewing. Mine is a complete woose in the rain.
It is ridiculous when you think about it. As Jacksmylad rightly said, they are horses and have survived without all the pampering for thousands of years. I think we put far too many of our emotions on our horses. Still it is done now lol

I used to worry myself sick but I've been and checked them so many times when they've been happily munching away on the grass that I don't worry anymore. They are horses and meant to be outdoor animals, fortunately all mine love living out and wouldn't thank me at all if I brought them in. If it's persistant torrential rain I'll put a Mac on them!

Nope. It's a horse and, providing you provide adequate shelter for them if they want to use it then there isn't a problem. A horse is designed to survive in all weathers - as someone said (well 2 people) they won't melt!!! I saw a horse with a rug (probably lightweight) on today - WHY??! It's a bloody horse, they are NOT human they do NOT feel the weather the same way as us, it's ridiculous - how many cows/sheep do you see with rugs on?!!!

I am not sure how people define a horse looking 'miserable' TBH. My horse can look miserable when stood dozing in the sunshine, i don't then bring him in the shade! Until my horse learns to speak and tells me "Actually, I'm not loving this weather, please could you grab my coat for me". I shall treat it as a horse.

not really, it does cross my mind but then i remind myself that i am worrying about nothing at this time of year especially, and as long as she is rugged appropriately in worse types of weather i dont worry generally, but i cant honestly say i do have a moment of worry, then it passes

Nope, not really as I put a lightweight rug on my woosiest horse every night just in case of rain. The only thing I really worry about is thunder and lightning because that is genuinelly dangerous for horses to be out in! I ALWAYS make sure I get them in until its over.
