have a horse/pony that does not get on with others but prefers human company?
Mr. Tickles came to us as a rescue with his brother, both stallions 4 and 5 years old. Lived together all their lives. When they were well they started fighting. I mean real Stallion fighting injuring each other. We had to split them up.
Tickles brother has been re-homed.
Tickles was gelded in spring. He made friends with Basil a colt at home and they got on fab.
We moved them back to the field together and put them in the same field hopeing to intergrate Tickles into the herd. They were fine and happy until one morning i found Tickles had attacked Basil in the night. It was superficial wounds but lots of them. It came out of the blue after a few days.
Basil went back into the herd.
Anyway. Tickles is the perfect horse with people but charges at the fence if another horse goes near the fence opposite his field.
He has been to one show and behaved perfect in company.
I have never had a horse that could not be with another. Anyone else ever had this problem? He seems happy on his own.
When he came to us he was terrified of people and was not near other horses only his brother.

yes . . my boy kingy, though not as severe as your mr tickles, he does not appreciate the company of other horses, he has to spend many weeks with a fence separating him from another horse before he can be turned out with it, and even then he will kick out or try and bite if they come near him, he grazes on his own in the corner. always very excited to see me or anyone else human. he is also aggressive towards other horses at shows or in the stable yard if they come too close. he is worse when they approach from behind, so i have put this down to a bad experience he must have had as it all changed about 2 years ago, before that he was fine. dont know what to suggest im afraid. although i will say, even though king tells me he hates all his field buddies, when the youngster fell in a ditch, he ran between the ditch where he'd fallen and the field gate screaming his head off until someone came to help him. very puzzling behaviour, all i can say is i think he knew his life was in danger, and i don't think he wants to kill, he just likes to be on his own, hope that all made sense, got bit of a headache this morning!!
