My horse seems to take pleasure in knocking things over.
He pulls his rugs off the rails in his stable and dumps them on the floor.
Also if I put his saddle on his stable door, he attempts to knock it off too!
Could this be due to boredom?

mischeviousness! Pidge is exactly the same hence nothing is in reach of him

My horse does this when he wants attention!
If im on the yard but not with him he wil throw everything he can find on the floor and then stand and stare at me! He does it if you stand with your back to him, except hell grab hold of you then!
He just hates being ignored and i guess has found this a way of getting attention! Hes so funny when he does it, throws something then looks at you as if to say arent i clever, come and feed me!
Id rather he did this than kicked the door!

My farrier had to change his chappy-things from velcro fastenings to buckle ones as hen keep getting hold of the fastening and undoing it! He still tries now, just cant figure out the buckle!
And he always tries untying himself, he just cant always figure out the right piece of rope to pull! Its as if he saw another horse do it and thought that looks fun, but he cant rmember how they did it!!
Watching him do these things youd think he was 4 not 14!!!

mine tends to throw himself to the floor in a temper tantrum if you ignore him....

he throws his water bucket around at night(and it huge!)....rubber trug gets thrown around it has been in opposite stable before now.....doors opened so they are now tied up.....

its all charecter!

Ali always grabs rugs I leave on his stable door and dumps them inside his stable! But he knows that if he tried to knock his saddle off his stable door I'd murder him. Ali also enjoys grabbing leadropes, headcollars, brushes etc. that I leave inside his stable briefly.

He also chews through the bailers twine he's tied to when I tie him up, and then holds the leadrope in his mouth as if to say "Mummy, I didn't do anything, honest!"

Ah, all of these horses described seem to be male.
Just made me remember reading in horse and rider the other day that male horses are more playful than female.
I think I'm going to get him some sort of toy to occupy him!

Hen has a feed ball at night and he loves it although he does knock it all over the place, it ended up in his water bucket the other day!
Gelded horses are supposed to be more playful than entire horses as they are not so concerned with breeding!
Certainly true of all the geldings i know!
Hen will also grab his rugs when they are on him and yank them when hes being ignored, if theres nothing else in reach!
We have a alarm on the tack room door that goes off when the string gets pulled out and he thinks its great fun to scare the cr*p out of everyone on the yard by yanking it out!!

Sus walks under his rugs where they hang up. The other day the YO was turning the other horses out and came back and he was wearing his stable rug as a necklace and looking mightly pleased with his new necklace! lol

He is a funny one he trots round the stable and bucks in it for his dinner too.

yup-I have never got into the habit of leaving saddles over doors--they just went straight off!
rugs, baby horse sent them flying!

Mine is a mare and shes very good at untying herself... i lost her one day and found her on the gallops having a good old graze... what can i say, maybe women are more clever!?! She is now tied in a stable unless i can watch her reeeallly closely. Shes very good at pulling rugs off rails and likes to sweep (she has a broom fettish). Her old saddle had a nice set of teeth maks in it as does her bridle. Nothing is left in her reach anymore. Oh she also likes to pick up hats and throw them about- gets quite expensive.

She has also managed to destroy 2 snack ball things, she now has a decahedron!!!

However anoying it may be its a bit of a quirk and quite funny aslong as you know not to trust her with anything!

I dont think its to get attention (she rubs her teeth along the metal bars and begs for that), i think its that she likes to amuse herself and play. She isnt a typically playful horse with other horses... shes prob just like the kid in the corner who will happily build a tower by themselves.

playfullness. My horse does all of the above which I dont mind the one thing I really object to is when he pulls the elastic on the side of my coat or from the pocket on my coat which springs back into my hip or my face and really hurts. Why do they put them on winter coats Ive had to cut most of them off they have given me some great bruises.

My mare managed to ditch her rug in the field, for the second time tonight! Its a full neck and every surcingle, strap, velcro piece etc fully tied. The strangest part is there's not a scrap of mud anywhere but, on her legs.

Cant leave anything in reach of merlin.... coffee cups get smashed, rugs get stood on, boxes get emptied, toggles and zips are fiddled with etc...... its a wonder that the tub he has his water in has not been trashed yet... he must realise it is rather important for his survival!!!

Only thing he leaves alone is the leadrope!!!! Never plays with that.

My mare loves to break stuff - me included! She's a thug who's kicked her stable walls to bits and killed 2 likit holders, a hay bar and hundreds of over-reach boots. She's also very talented at cutting herself with one leg on the other!!??! If you leave rugs/tack/brushes near her she's standing on them within seconds. She's a destructive bugger but she makes me smile!

My gelding waves his empty feed bowl at you to hint hes ready to go out, bucks round his box if left in too long, then takes his boots off and rips over reach boots when hes out. All for fun! He also plays tug with the others over the fence if they are wearing rugs, great game.
My youngster has to have the twine he's tied to in his mouth, he bites his knee when you pick his foot out and will chew any part of you thats in his way unless he's got hay. Both geldings and as daft as each other!

Yep can I join this club - its definately called "larger than life character
smirk.gif
- nothing is safe within reach, and at the last yard he developed a super go go gadget telescopic giraffe neck to reach and knock off the stuff the neighbours left outside their stable too.
blush.gif
Crib box etc don't work he just licks it, sat on automatic waterer and broke it, throws feedbowls at you in the morning, loves to scrape metal curry comb on metal surface given half a chance (noise is HORRIBLE!!),
shocked.gif
has ruined my coat, can give you a wedgie or nick your scrunchie, alywas pulls any rugs left on the fence off and tramples them into the mud, recently found standing in the remains of some expensive brushing boots and once cost his owner a saddle for leaving that on the fence nearby. Drives us insane, but I love him to bits and couldn't be with a boring horse after this!
grin.gif

If I'm stupid enough to leave my hat on Badger's windowsill (which is quite often!
tongue.gif
) or anything else for that matter - it's always a modged up pooy mess in his bed when i go to get it!
smirk.gif

I can't leave rugs/saddles etc on my stable door because he'll throw them on the floor, it drives me mad. The other day someone brought him in and left his rug over his door. When I got to the yard, he'd been in for about 4 hours with the rug on the door, as soon as he saw me he got a glint in his eye and threw it on the floor!! He so does it to wind me up.

Canto's a monster for this! He throws rugs on the floor, also jackets, mucking out tools and anything else he can get his hooves on! If that doesn't get him attention, he starts to rip up anything he can by pinning it to the floor with a hoof and pulling it with his teeth
mad.gif

If it still doesn't work and I'm within reach he'll try to knock me over, grab my hair (naughty horse!) or scrape his foot on the floor until I've gone mad
crazy.gif

The only thing my mare does is take off my hat for me
smile.gif

I have walked in to have treat balls thrown at me demanding htey be filled this instant!!

Tyler seems to be very mouthy, like a teething toddler (had his teeth checked and they are fine) and anything that is in his way gets sniffed, licked, chewed, knocked over. Can be funny, but when the onbject concerned is someones very expensive leather saddle that they have left on a gate near where I tied Tyler up, then it isnt so funny!!!

Lance is terible for tipping things and being cheeky, he went through a phase of when he ran out of hay he would paw at the rugs on the rug rail until someone came to tell him off (and notice he had no hay and give him more), or until they were on the floor, then he would poo on them!
A few tellings off and he doesnt do it anymore though.

You also cant leave a wheelbarrow outside his stable or he will tip it over, ifhe is feeling bored he will knock everything off in sight, including headcollars, brushes etc.

I wouldnt want him any other way, its him.
grin.gif

My bugger pulls anything around outside his stable, which is really annoying as theres little storage for rugs and headcollars bar the hangers outside the stable, but I'm fed up of him 'Playing' with them just because he can. Wouldn't dream of leaving a rug over stable door or tying him up near anything moveable. Such a big baby

Hmm, my horse is terrible and has to be in to everything. He's a master at unbolting his door, can even undo any clips that you out on too (we have to have a special bolt on now). he's been know to steal my dad's coat and told if he's ever doing any work in the field and just runs off with them!

My sister's horse too is very mouthy and tests everything, he flings his water bucket around and puts anything in his mouth he can find (strangely not his bit though, he doens't likle that going in - oh no!) He chucked a full wheel barrow of mucky straw over the other day (most annoying). His favourite thing to do though is grabbing coat toggles or anything like that - it's a real battle to get him to let go.

Still, it makes for entertainment I guess!
grin.gif

Oh yes! Talk about trying to get attention! My son's pony makes sure someone is looking and then a)turns over the barrow,b)chucks rugs off door or fence,c) picks up or turns over anything that might get her audience to yell "Purdey!! STOP!" Then she kinda smirks and moves on to something else. Contrast with Saffron who waits to be sure that NO-ONE is watching...she regularly hops the electric fence designed to limit her grazing. I spent hours in a stakeout trying to see her doing it, but she knew I was in the bushes and played all innocent etc. The MINUTE i turned my back..ping. Big smirk.
Both adorable....

Yep my Mare does stuff like that all the time - her best trick is picking up her headcoller from the hook by her stable and throwing it on the floor when she wants to be turned out. I used to leave my schooling whip outside my stable with other junk and when she's in and i'm mucking her out she will lean over the wheelbarrow in the door, pick it up and start waving it about at people as they walk past!
