as stated my horse has got 5 diastem's (the most my vet has ever come across). so was wondering if anyone eles has a horse with this problem and if so how often they get it treated
diastem is an abnormal gap between check teeth. so it is little gaps between teeth. this causes food gets stuck in and festers causing extreme pain and infection.
YES my horse has 2 or 3! We have tried to treat it conservatively she just had the edges dremmeled off by the vet under sedation, she is chewing much better now, she would occasionally seem uncomfortable chewing on one side of her mouth, first vet didn't find anything, she has always had her teeth checked regulalry (every 6 months) since i have onwed her. My horse is only 7, i think it is less common in younger horses. Also she is a TBx and think more common in draft breeds.
