Am looking at replacing my car at some point beginning of next year and was wondering if anyone had experience with either the 2.4 petrol automatic or the 2.2 diesel manual.

I really want something that's economical as it's main use will be as my work/runaround car, towing only once a fortnight or so in the summer to shows. I am therefore not too worried about the fuel consumption when towing, but I really need something that will do around 40mpg (combined) under normal circumstances.

When I do tow, it's a 401 (770kg) with a 14.3 Sec Dx (around 430kg), and I have used a Grand Vitara 2.5 petrol auto for the past 5 years. It's a brilliant tow car, but only does around 20mpg (probably about 12 when towing!)

Any comments on either of the Jeep models most welcome.

Thanks

I have a Mitzi Shogun which is spot on but averages 24 mpg. Before buying a car i alaways use WHAT CAR reviews or Parkers or Autoexpress, it has helped me make car buying decisions reviews on internet only on gen.sites as above - good luck

Have a look at my recent towing thread, there were a lot of helpful replies re more economical smaller 4x4s, thought about jeep but I didn't like the look, just got a freelander 2 instead :)

I tow an Ifor Williams 505 with a 17.2 DWB on board - my car is a 54 plate Jeep Cherokee 2.8CRD automatic. Tows like a dream, average mpg 25 - but I am known to have a heavy right foot :)
