Does anyone have a lovely new water feature in their field?

I do, apparently!

It's very yukky and Ned looks miserable!

Oh yes....

Felix has been taking his Carmargue ancestry a little too literally:

The other field is just like a paddy field :( I just hope it gets a chance to drain before it freezes again or it will be an ice rink.

we have a little pond in our field at the moment. I really really want to go and put some rubber ducks out there!!

We have a pond and river (dinky) already which are thankfully coping!
Horses as usual are still wading back and forth through river rather than walking through openings between fields though, so all happy but muddy.

My stables, tackroom and feed room are flooded out again, most of the field is completely underwater, the rest is sodden puddles. The ducks and geese have moved back in. Also the bottom layer of haylege is 6 inches under water. I have no where to even stand them in dry to even think about tacking up and riding. The trailer has been dragged onto an Island. I use a jump bloc as a mounting block and it has floated away!!!

Mine just have to stay in the soggy bits. they have acces to the stables but have to wade through 18 inches of water to get in.

I don't have a water feature unfortunately, it does seem though i've swapped my entire field for a lake! Isn't this weather just brilliant :) My poor boys are cooped up in their stable. Luckily we have a walker and 2 schools so they will still get exercise :)

Good Grief! Those photos are seriously depressing.

You really want to hope that you don't get a big freeze before that lot goes.

My puddles have turned to ice rinks, our temps haven't gone above -5C for a while now. I was driving the tractor over the pond today, not a crack. Time to get the skates out - not joking, we do skate on our fields.

I have now got my own lake which the ducks and geese love, the river is flowing to fast for them so they are settled on my new water feature. At least something is benefitting from all the rain!!

Mine are roughing it. Shelter has water lapping at it, but haylage ring is on the only dry area so they are standing at that and going into shelter. It's all on hard standing. OH has dug out a channel with an axe to allow it to drain, bit like the niagra falls!
I do have another field but it's thick mud to get to grass so not moving them unless I have to.

OH came out with a genius man comment earlier.
He was standing admiring his new niagra falls and glanced at the water bucket.
"their water bucket is nearly empty, don't you think you should fill it up?"

:-)

What are people doing that are flooded are horses just roughing it?

We have a lake in our field but the hay is on drier ground so is ok and not at risk of floating away. Horses are enjoying the addition of a pool for them to wade in. Even Asbo pony is enjoying it and she will either go around a puddle or jump it rather than get her feet wet

It's been that grotty round by us haven't really rode - one has been lame so has had some tine off -I have some lovely field ornaments x

Impressive Nah!

No lakes now, just a quagmire. Mud glorious mud.

Can't even grow rice as it requires a constant 70 degree Fahrenheit temperature (yep - I researched it!!)

Ponies are bored and hungry by bring in time. Think I'll turn out in school tomorrow and just leave loads of hay and water as don't trust the youngster to behave in the small turn-out in front of the stables and we're out most of the day :(

It's totally relentless isn't it? Our lad is living out with just the hedges for shelter, but judging by his antics in the school yesterday (very good, the school) he is feeling and looking really well. We have tried him on haylage but after the initial excitement he has left it and we will now have to scoop it up when we can get onto the field. It is the dear bagged stuff too! The field has developed ponds and a river, but there are a lot worse off than us, and I really feel for those of you who have posted photos. I hope it stops for you soon.

PSML - Thats one pee'd off Neddy :D

Our paddocks are ok but have left them in and they can go in the school and have a hooley round. After 10 minutes they just stand there looking miserable anyhoo. Perk of having ex-racers, they're happy being stabled :)

We have some patches of field between our water features. Our lami paddock is downhill, & looks like a man made pond. Complete with ducks. There's also a new stream leading to the henhouse. And we count ourselves lucky. Half the farms land is under water, however being on a hill the buildings are safe, & we at least have some usable turnout.
