Does anyone have any experience of marbles in uterus?

Hi

Charm's on REgumate as when she comes into season she constantly bangs her hip. I don't particularly like handling the stuff and it's expensive so my vet thinks inserting a marble might be a way forward. No surgical procedure involved.
Now I would like to have a foal later on so when I raised this with him he said the only problem is sometimes the marble lodge in the wall and have to be removed by key hole surgery.
I know this is fairly new but has any one had one, then had it taken out and got their mare in foal?
Vet is out later so would just like to hear some views before I talk it over with him again.
Thanks

I have a mare in at the moment who had a marble put into her when she was racing. She is never marish now and apparently was before. It is certainly cheaper that regumate and can be removed if she were to be put in foal.

I've been quoted £100 tops to put it in whereas Reguamate is about £60 for 2 months supply. Not sure what to do though.

GD - thanks for that but I did try it before and it made no difference

OH's mare had marble after regumate worked only to a degree (and cost) - marble lasted 3 weeks and was 'spat' into the field somewhere! While it was 'in' it worked brilliantly.

Seriously though - TRY SEPIA - we used it on Hils advice last year and madam was a different animal.

Coligon has also helped (originally started it after she colic'ed on night) since she has been on it the marish temperament has gone.

When she was on only Oestruss last summer (just brough back into work) she was extremely tight behind saddle and tense from 2 days before season until 3 or 4 days after - alot bearing in mind she seasons 3 weekly. The sepia stopped the tightness and settled the ridden work down no end - really is worht a try - I just buy the pillules from holland and barratt and she has 2 or 3 in a piece of apple approx 20 mins before work - that was all it took

She's on two syringes of Coligone a day - fab stuff I couldn't be without.
She's been scanned and there is nothing abnormal on her ovaries so I tried the sepia but she was still banging her hip for most the the summer. She recently came into season and I thought I can't do this all summer again so got her on Regumate. Now she doesn't have a season it's alot easier.
Thanks for the advice.

Our mare certainly didn't need an injection to get rid of it!

We joke that she's a dodgy dutch porn star with a 'circus trick' !

my old vet at old yard done the marble thing on a mare that we had as a las resort to calm her moods down. Not sure if it worked though as the owner gave up shortly afterwards and sold it to a hunting yard. She was an evil mare but seemed to like me for some reason, I was the only who could do anything with her, not even her owners could do anything

There is a member of www.equine-world.co.uk who had one put in her mare - I think she's called Teabag (username)

Seemed to do the trick

Hi I found this posted on another forum (by the person that Thunder and I mentioned)

My mare was very naughty and nasty when I had her. She had a cyst and this was broken down by hormone injections. Then she went nasty again in autumn and spring the vet said it was due to her seasons stopping and then starting up again either side of winter. He suggested Regumate, but the cost was horrendous. He then suggested a marble inserted in the uterus. This cost £200 total (for scan, sedation, marble and antibiotics to prevent infection) and it has worked very well for my mare. if it doesn't work there are no adverse side affects and it can be taken out if necessary. Might be something to consider.
