Hello

does anyknow if legally you have to have 'Horses' or 'Horses on Board' signwritting on horseboxes used for transport...?

I have just had mine done, but see some without so was just wondering..?

Thanks

No, as far as I know it's not a set-in-stone requirement, however, I do know that signwriting more than just 'Caution Horses' can lead to Vosa impounding lorries that have 'advertising signwriting' on unless them - unless you have a valid operator's licence.

Some think they can get around it by adding 'Not for hire and reward' on their box but apparently, it doesnt matter. If you have your yard name, sponsor, etc in your signage it's considered 'advertising a business' and means you need an op licence.

No, there is no legal requirement at all for the sign.

What Spyda is talking about is something totally different & it has no real impact on the majority of horse people. If you are using the horsebox a a professional horseman in the course of your business, for reward, money making etc then you need an operators licence. The vast majority of horsebox owners are enthusiastic amateurs so it makes little difference to them. If you have sponsorship signs, advertising for companies etc (even if it's Daddy's) then you may be thought to be receiving financial gain from it & VOSA may use their powers to ruin your day :(

Thanks for the replies, no we just compete for fun and just have a 'HORSES'

at the front and a 'HORSES IN TRANSIT - SLOW!' on the back.

Thanks :)

Anyone know where I can get some good transfers as my lorry has a new body without any writing.
