does anyone long rein like this?

I'm told by a very good authority that it's more working in-hand than long-reining. Would love to learn more about it. My trainer uses it all the time - her horses, shoulder-in, renvers, traverse, collected canter, piaffe, etc. Magic to watch.

The method shown is 'Working in Hand' and more often used on more advanced horses. Long reining from a distance behind teaches the young horse to be confident about where it goes, improves steering and control.

I personally prefer to lunge mine as I've found that long reining can encourage the horse to get behind the bit.

The Spanish riding school. It's a bit too advanced for me. I just follow on behind with Nits trying to kick me in the head periodically!

Thats interesting, i've always long-reined rehab horses but never found a problem with getting behind the bit before, but find lunging a nightmare but maybe its more to do with them being mostly ex-racers?
I am working through in-hand exercises though and might have a go at this as we progress.
I'm all for doing things other than riding, I think its good to do different stuff rather than just trotting the endless circles that I see people do on some yards.
