Does anyone own a PRE (Andulucian) horse which has been imported?

Hello - I am seriously considering buying an Andulucian horse which has been imported from spain. Has anyone else on here done this?? Any tips?? I know most of them are entire when they come over and can then be gelded but I am a little concerned about them still having stallionish natures as they are cut so late....any advise appreciated.

North Farm Andalaucians are supposed to be good.

You do pay a premium if someone has already imported them though- I'd rather go out there and choose from a wider selection at cheaper prices

Are you buying through a dealer or have you been over there yourself?

Did you know that there are several breeders/dealers actually in the UK? Are you buying backed or unbacked?

Also bear in mind that the spanish take no sh1t from their stallions, which is one of the reasons they are so well behaved, if the stallion is gelded later then there will some stally behaviour for a while.

I have been in touch with a dealer over here who seems lovely and very knowledgeble and I hope to go and see her soon (North Farm Andalucians) but I was just wondering how others have got on buying this breed and whether there are any tips they may have.

I probably am not the best person to advise you - I am totally biased

Started with 1 - now have 4

The things to remember about PREs is that they are:

a) Horses
b) Hotbloods
c) Extremely sensitive

Having said that, they are very intelligent and are a joy to train (do bear in mind tho that they learn bad things just as easily as they learn good things

).

My lot are British Bred, bar one - a mare who was imported from Spain in Nov 06, as an unbacked 4yo. If buying from Spain, always go for unbacked, if buying from the UK, try and go for one that was backed here - you will find the basics are much better, the spanish, in general are superb riders, but the ones they back to sell to the UK etc are mainly taught 'tricks' as that is what the a lot of new owners seem to want sadly

Check out www.bapshweb.co.uk, there are usually a few for sale on there and often you can pick up a gelding fairly cheap - hope this helps
