What is the tonne? Are they reliable and are the parts easy to get? Are they good on Diesel? Thanx

I have got one. Tonnage is 5.5. Mine is reliable, it's an F reg so quite elderly but its starts first time every time - although if you don't start it once per week in the winter (as I found out) the cold start drains the battery when you do try it. However, I think this is something that occurs with all old lorries. Deisel consumption is great - I think sometimes it is more economical than my deisel peugeot 306! couldn't give you a figure though but I have been running it locally for the last few weks on just a 10 quid top-up. Parts are getting harder to get hold of but my local garage sorted the rear brakes out in september and they were able to get the parts within a week. Aparantly Massey Fergusson tractor parts are identical and can be used.
Anyway, I am very fond on of mine. It has never let me down and has taken me on my own to loads of BE events as well as Windsor Royal show (a long way from Kent!). It runs sweetly - most are fitted with perkins engines which were built to last. If I find a spare grand this year I will be having the cab resprayed as it will be a really smart little box with a new paint job.
I do, my engine is smaller , (3.9 i think - thats OH territory) but it has the mark 1 perkins diesel engine. Not fast but it pull well. Mine is a C reg, had to have quite a lot done to the breaks this year but they should keep her going for years and years now. Mine is coach built and has a fab box - redid the living myself this year.
I am also saving up for a respray. If you are thinking of buying one I would suggest you check the floor of the cab out. The floor in ours was completerly rotten, however I have a OH who weld! It appeared that the gutter strip on the luton was directing water into the cab. OH has tweaked it nowm so hopefully all will be well from now on. According to a local farmer, the local scrap yard and our garage the engines are agricultural but go forever, the only weak point is the cab body.
Oh yes - to answer your question - it has always started first time, is 5.5 tonnes and mine copes with 3 x ponies or two horses. I am not sure about diesel, seems fairly economical but my fuel guage doesnt work so I am absolutely paranoid about running out and constantly topping up. I have never been able to clock how many miles a whole tank does
Mine sounds the same as yours but is a 6.6t. Massey fergusson parts do fit as I have a starter motor and other bits on mine. My OH also had to weld the floor up
