Can anyone who owns a stud farm or land that for planning permission purposes is designated as stud tell me what that actually means?
I've been to see some 'stud' land that is probably unlikely to get change of use to equestrian. It is grazing with post-and-rail and water but no stables etc. What could I use it for? I would be happy to have a mare in addition to my geldings if that meant I could legitimately use it for grazing but does stud land have stipulations about the number of foals you have to produce? I would probably not want to get into breeding on a big scale. Currently, I think it is just used for grazing miscellaneous horses belonging to the stud.
Essentially what I'm asking is, if you buy stud land - do you *have* to run a stud? For example, if I were to buy agricultural land, I can legitimately keep horses on it, I don't *have* to use it for agriculture per se. If I put up stables, I would of course get planning permission etc. but for the day to day running, how does it work?
Local council were pretty sure I would not get change of use but they were quite vague about what I would have to do in order for it to be used legitimately. Can anyone help??
