Does anyone remember the ex top international SJ that ended up with a dealer and being sold to a girl who had no idea of his history?

I'm not sure if anyone remembers this story. A young lady posted on trace my horse about a horse she had just purchased from a dealer. He had been passed around some notorious bin end dealers and had picked up some bad scars?

Well she posted today about how she was now having to sell him and he has now been picked up by legacy of legends!

A nice happy ending for the old boy

Don’t think I’d heard about this. Sounds like a good outcome though.
It was such a crazy story, she had no idea she had inadvertently bought a former top international SJ. She seems to have looked after him well since then so it is nice that he has gone to a good retirement home.

Funnily enough this girl's name has come up in a post on fb group this afternoon. Some argument about a TB that the original owner had to buy back from her under a false name because he was in poor condition.

I've not heard of her before so can't comment but remembered the name when I read the article.

Does anyone remember the thread on here years ago that was similar? Dark bay or black horse, think it was a gelding, ex-sj or eventer that had been top level. Wound up on horsequest or Dragon driving in a sorry state.

Should this matter be investigated by The British Show Jumping Association to determine exactly what happened and how his passport got changed?

I don't think they would have any jurisdiction? It should be investigated by trading standards, but I understand they don't investigate anything any more in the UK due to lack of funds / staff (there is an article in the Guardian on this topic today).

Is this poor horse actually going to a retirement home or a French abattoir?

If its the latter he can come and live with my lot, I'll collect him tomorrow....

I imagine most people who can cope with a powerful, athletic, hot puissance horse (I don't know the temperament of this specific horse, I'm just generalising) are people who still want to be out competing. There can't be many leisure homes that can cope with this type of elite ex-jumper. Never mind that the horse is almost certainly riddled with arthritis by now.

If these horses don't have any financial value as stallions or broodmares, then I can imagine that many of them have a bleak future once they're no longer successful in the ring.

Ps I really hope I'm wrong! Obviously lots of OTTBs manage to transition to a different type of life after racing. But then again, many don't.

There's something deeply fishy about this whole situation

Dodgy dealer after dodgy dealer now a foreign 'rescue'

I've seen this and everyone is praising his most recent owner but honestly all I can see is shes doing the same as everyone else has done to this poor horse.

She advertised him for £1500 days ago as a low level jumper at 21 but included pictures of him jumping top of the wings....

What did she thing was going to happen if she sold him? Why do people advertise as will only go to a forever home when they won't provide it themselves?

Luckily she got a lot of grief for advertising and the charity came forward.
