i dont hack out in one, as i like to hear if anything is coming, but i always school in one, i have uplifting music on, and it makes schooling a lot less boring!
No, I didn't think anyone would on a hack - I wouldn't on a hack but I would love to ride with one in school. I think it would help with rhythm if you had good music and even to relax and go with the flow more!

When I was desperately trying to get my confidence back after some nasty jumping falls, where I couldn't even hack out, my ipod was invaluable.
I'd listen to it for about 10 minutes beforehand and while I rode, just a plod down the bridlepath that ran in front of the yard (no roads). I only needed to do this for a couple of weeks.
Happy to say my confidence is at its highest (4 years on) since my falls thanks to my lovely cob and techniques such as listening to music while riding
No, don't think I'd like to actually I like to be able to here what is going on around me, I like the clippiclop of the hooves, the birds whistling and the peice and quiet to be honest.
When schooling I would, if I had rememberd my earphones
But I think schooling to music helps keep the bordem at bay
When hacking I normally put ipod on speaker (i have iphone) and in my pocket, so i can still hear. I think its nice for the horse to listen to music as well
I have my stereo by my arena during the summer, and I can have that on, my horses do not bat an eyelid. The prospect of having headphones in whilst riding scares me- at least if you can hear the pheasant getting up from behind the bush before it comes into view, you have a second to brace yourself for the guarenteed panic attack the horse will monentarily have.
I'm also partly deaf, so it really wouldn't benefit me to be wandering around with my headphones in on the horse.

I often have my iPod in one ear whilst riding, mucking out, grooming etc. Have a playlist for schooling to, and sometimes listen to it hacking (on private land, not roads).
Cannot listen to music whilst jumping though, for some reason it throws my (admittedly, poor at the best of times) ability to see strides off completely!
I think it would be madness; you have to be able to hear traffic or whatever, I can;t imagine even wanting to shut out the nice noises of the countryside when I ride!
I School with an Ipod as I find it takes my mind off of things like playing with my hand position when there's nothing wrong with it and over complicating my riding.
It also helps me keep Lennox at a steady pace which, admittedly is occasionally challenging.
The main issue that I have is that during my trot work, the earphones "bobble" out of my ears!
Yes, my son listens to ipod in the school or rigs up his phone so that he can talk hands free. Liveries often think he is talking to himself as he canters around the school! Have told him on no account to hack out with it though.
Have schooled with ipod in, but tbh was a pain as didn't really have anywhere to stick it! I don't have my ipod very loud though and can still hear most things, although to be fair most small spooky animals don't seem to make much noise so makes no difference! Need to get a stereo really as would be easier than stuffinf ipod down my jodhs.
i play music on my phone both out hacking and schooling and jumping at home but if im in company in the school then i put headphones in as i hate being distracted while schooling, jumping and hacking i dont mind being distracted
I listen to my ipod out hacking, but they are audiobooks rather than music. The difference being, I can hear any traffic, ducks and cyclists!! Although I like the peace out hacking, it does get very boring sometimes!!
My mare is about as bombproof as they come though....when I have to hack the young one, I certainly wont be fiddling with an ipod!!!
Used to school Bean with 1 ear in. Don't with lady or out hacking.
However i did feel like having some music on on one long summer hack, so played it out my phone (like out my pocket, not headphones)... I got asked if I was carrying a radio haha!!
My friend did once, i told her she would fall off... her horse came galloping up the track and i could hear her screaming, i heroically jumped the arena fence (i had always wanted to do it
) and rushed to her rescue... she was fine, but i will never do it!
I would, in the school, as I have downloaded dressage tests onto it. I can't just now as my horse has cracked both ear pieces by grabbing them from around my neck with her teeth. All done very delicately, deliberately and subtley!
I have done in the pastd when my confiendence was very low due to many falls. I only have one ear piece in and have it on low so still can hear what else is going on. I found it helps me as I sing along to the songs. It's a good thing I ride out alone most of the time my poor singing!!!
