does anyone suffer with vertigo, and can you still ride?

Vertigo is hideous, you have my sympathy, I permanently damaged my ears and suffered very badly from it in its most annoying form (Labyrinthitis) - luckily my brain has reprogrammed itself and I am near normal now

After the initial period of extreme symptoms was over I could ride my bike and horse perfectly well but as soon as I got off I fell over like I was drunk. Lunging was a bit of a no no for a while.

I found wrap around sunglasses that cut out light and restrict vision very helpful. Watch out for canter in dappled sunlight as the flashes of light overload the brain and you can get a bit nauseous.

The thing is not to race about and get over tired as this just gives your brain too much to do and the room starts spinning.

Hope you get well soon - have you had a bad cold? it is quite common to get vertigo due to the ears getting challenged.

I had it temporarily last year, it took 10 days to go. Mine was caused by an inner ear virus. I did get over it, although my ear drums are generally knackered and so my balance is not brilliant. I don't find it affects my riding.

Don't ask me to stand on one leg though !

I've always had a thing with motion and after flying or sailing I still feel floaty for ages afterwards....this came on following a recent flight to turkey....never felt anything like it before....doctor in turkey said it was meniers (my nan had it so did my dad) but doctor here says labrynthitis.

I now feel like I've got a hangover and feel drunk and wobbly

thanks for your tips on what to avoid when riding, and Rebel 1990.....I too can't lunge makes me feel really sick!!!

I too have this problem. I've found that with balance pretty poor I lean to one side when riding. Doesn't make me feel ill when riding but find that if I bend down too quick to take off boots etc have a major dizzy spell so much so have had to leave stable on hands and knees!!

I suffer sometimes and find leg yield tricky because you have to look straight but the horse moves across (and forward).

Other than that riding doesn’t affect me as long as i look in the direction i am traveling.

I think everyone is different so I would try it and see when makes it worse.
